I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old, Which we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us. Many fathers work hard, hoping they can leave their children some kind of earthly inheritance. But there’s a more important inheritance Christian men should leave for their children: a legacy of faith. It’s the kind of faith that shows itself in a commitment to God and His written Word. That’s a legacy your children can take from their homes growing up to their own adulthood and on into eternity.
Of course, it’s important on a purely personal level to live the life God calls you to live. But God also calls you to leave a legacy to your children and to the rest of the next generation (and others to follow). He wants you to leave a legacy of faith, a legacy of godly living, and a legacy of love for God and His Word.
How can you begin working to leave your children that kind of inheritance?
Prayer: Father in heaven, show me how I can leave my own children, as well as their children, an inheritance of godliness and love for Your Word.
