I will get my knowledge from afar and ascribe righteousness to my Maker. For truly my words are not false; one who is perfect in knowledge is with you. Job 36:3-4 ESV
Two days from now, the book of Psalms will provide the inspiration for these daily readings. Today’s verse reads a little like a psalm. But these verses weren’t written by King David. They delivered no compassion—and only limited understanding.
The words of Job’s companion sounded true, but they didn’t represent God. He thought he knew it all, but he hadn’t welcomed God to his speech making, God would soon be speaking, and His words would be remarkably different.
Not everyone who says they speak for God really do. Well-meaning people don’t always know God’s plan for your life or why bad things happen. What you can know is that humans aren’t perfect, but God is. His Word leaves guesswork behind. Listen to the advice of others, but only act on wisdom you learn from God.
God said in Isaiah 46:40 (ESV), “My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.” Job would need God’s counsel—it would change his future. The best counsel will always be found in the pages that continue past Genesis 1:1. Endure a little longer—God is in control.
Prayer: God, if I want perfect wisdom, then the final word will need to come from You. Your wisdom is my best guide. Your hope leads me through endurance.
