Protection

A promise for God's people:

The Lord will protect you and keep you safe from all dangers. The Lord will protect you now and always wherever you go. Psalm 121:7-8 After reading this passage from Psalm 121:7-8 it is reassuring that the Lord is with us in our lives. He is with us in all the highs and lows of everyday living.

I understand that He is with us, but I am wandering why, when there are car accidents and aircraft crashes that the Lord’s (God’s) protection is not with those who die or become injured?

Why He doesn’t stop the accident from happening, as He can see the pain and suffering that it will cause?

Is it because He can see the full pictures of our lives and can see into our futures, and therefore knows what is best for all in the long term? Thus some people are harmed or die in accidents.

Your comments are welcome.

God's Protection

I think that this quote is referring more to a "spiritual" protection rather than a "physical" protection.

Jesus warns us to beware more of anything that can harm our souls rather than things that can harm our lives.

What is it for the child of God to die, when Christ has conquered death?
God is ever watching over us in life, and in death takes us back into His glorious presence. Is our momentary suffering worth the glory that awaits?

Isa 53:1 Has anyone believed us or seen the mighty power of the LORD in action? Like a young plant or a root that sprouts in dry ground, the servant grew up obeying the LORD. He wasn't some handsome king. Nothing about the way he looked made him attractive to us.
He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, "He is a nobody!" He suffered and endured great pain for us, but we thought his (Christs) suffering was punishment from God.

Rom 8:17 His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him. I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us.

1Pe 5:6 For this cause make yourselves low under the strong hand of God, so that when the time comes you may be lifted up;
Putting all your troubles on him, for he takes care of you.
Be serious and keep watch; the Evil One, who is against you, goes about like a lion with open mouth in search of food;
Do not give way to him but be strong in your faith, and in the knowledge that your brothers who are in the world undergo the same troubles. And after you have undergone pain for a little time, the God of all grace who has given you a part in his eternal glory through Christ Jesus, will himself give you strength and support, and make you complete in every good thing;
His is the power for ever. So be it.

Thank you for all your replies.

You were very helpful. I never thought of it in the context of spiritual protection. It does make sense, as God does take care of us spiritually. The verses Psalm 121:7-8 are very likely to be related to spiritual protection.

Your reference to:
Rom 8:17 His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him. I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us.

In this verse it explains that what we suffer in this world,is nothing compared with the glory that God will show to all who believe and trust in Him. This gives us real hope for the future and the understanding that when we face the dangers and trials of life that God cares for us.

Even though we may in the unlikely event be physically harmed, He has our futures in His control.

A promise of protection

Many of the Psalms refer to the protection the Lord offers to us as saints. I love the 91st psalm and the 23rd. They both address adversity and Gods protection over us during those times. I corth 10: 13 tells us that during a test or a trial God will bring or put us in a place of protection while the storms of life swirl around us.

If you read Luke 13: 1-4 Jesus disciples came to him and questioned him about two incidents that occurred. One Pilate had killed some believers for no reason and the others; the tower of Siloam had fallen on eighteen people and killed them. Jesus assured them it was not sin, but the circumstances of life. However, he warned them that even if the flesh was killed are you prepared for eternity. Life brings difficult circumstances to us all. For example, the tower of Siloam fell due to faulty construction. For example the bridge that collapsed in Minn last year. God did not ordain that, it was due to faulty construction and maintenance procedures. Innocent people died due to mans failure to follow construction codes.

Life brings many bad things due to ungodly people disobeying God, or through accidents and sickness. Many Christians die for no reason because they can not hear the voice of God warning them not to go on certain planes, down certain streets, or maybe wait five minutes before you leave work. ect, ect.

God is not the author of storms that destroy nor incidents like 911 and many of the disasters we see around the world. Psalm 24 tells us the earth is the Lords and the fullness thereof. The earth is the Lords, but if you read Gen 1:24-28 God gave ruler ship and dominion on earth to man.

Many Christians do not know their authority on earth and the power we have here and how to use the name of Jesus. God has given man the authority here and unfortunately many men use their authority wrongly. Look at Hitler, Stalin, Lennon, and Saddam Hussein. Romans 13 tells us all authority is from God, however, not all men in authority are appointed by God. All positions of authority are ordained by God and God expects men to appoint Godly people to these positions. Unfortunately many times men allow the ungodly to take over. Our country is a perfect example. When you appoint ungodly leaders, they appoint ungodly judges, senator and congressman and you have the mess we are in.

People think that because God is sovereign, he just comes here on the earth and does what ever he wants. No, God never overrides his word. He has given men choices to choose good or evil. He will let men choose evil, but he expects the Godly to oppose them and set up righteous men and put them in authority.

When you hear of plane crashes, most of the times they are caused by mistakes men make, faulty maintenance, terrorist attacks. If you have ever talked to people who have lived through these experiences they all say, I had a feeling something was going to go wrong. Or, I knew I shouldn’t have driven that route this morning. God was warning them. Other times things just happen. For example, I was sitting at a red light two years ago in my 18 wheeler and a guy on muscle relaxers driving on a suspended license hit my tanker at 50 miles an hour. Was that God? Nope, just a guy breaking the law! It was a bad situation, I got whip lash, but I believed God for my healing and recuperated just fine.

Just remember this, good God, bad devil.
