A question about Bibles

When I was 8 years I got my first Bible.
Then I got another when I was 14,
and another when I was 16
And another
And another
And another

I think I have about 13 Bibles in all. Some, like the ones I received as a teenager are all marked up. I underlined a lot using a ball point pen. Of course, the pen bled through to the back side of the page.

And then I discovered highlighters!!!

OK, enough rambling. What I want to know is what to do with all these Bibles. About 6 of them are King James Versions. The only one I read is the NIV.

How to you dispose of Bibles?
Is there some group (like the Lions Club that collects eyeglasses) that collects Bibles?

And who would want one that has been underlined excessively?

I am so pleased to read that I am not the only one who marked a bible with a ballpoint pen............as a youth........MmMm as you have precious sister.

Please hold on to the A.V. Some passages may seem hard work.......I dont know how things are with you......But the A.V. remains the most accurate to the Hebrew/Greek of scriptural translation.

The NIV is........I struggle to say good....but it is ok. Is used by many reknown preachers.

The ones you want to discard......leave them in the library, now and then.....

God Bless

I don't think she mentioned anything other than KJV and NIV. What is the A.V ? I personally think the NASB is very good. It is a revision of the American Standard Version if this is what you mean by A.V.

I think the KJV can be dangerous. I have seen people who act like it is the ONLY translation worth using. There are so many translation errors of words in the KJV, at minimum the NKJV should be used. A lot of people use the KJV because it "sounds holy". With all the "Thee" and "Thou" uses people relate those words to "holy speak". Jesus never said "thou" or "thee" any more then he said "you".

It was a great resource for a long time, but nowadays I think the KJV is just around for sentimental value, and of course those people who enjoy hearing "holy speak". Many translations have been far more exhaustive in their research and translating. If you want a severely literal version that is 100% word for word, I would grab a Young's :)

Anyway, I didn't mean to go off on a rant, but I don't know what the "A.V." is :)

As far as disposing of a bible, I don't really know if there is a proper way hehe. I would give them away. Even to thrift stores. You never know when someone might not have anything better.

Hun, I mark up my Bible too... The verses that stand out to me.. Has so much more meaning.... Heheh yeah.. I'm really wanting a NIV Bible, cuz all I have is a King James version.

Third World wants Old Bibles.

There are people in the 3rd world that would love to have your old Bibles. The King James is alright,
and so are the high lights. When you live in poverty your just thankful for what you can get.

There are Christian organizations that like to collect old Bibles & Christian books and send them out to places like Africa where English is spoken.

Blessings,

Tony

I agree. I would start off by giving to your family/friends who are unbelievers. Donate to their souls and preach to them!
