"Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven. Luke 6:37 NLT
Jesus knew that the imperfect judgment of people would only prompt more judgment and antagonism. Those who withhold forgiveness and mercy will be far less likely to receive it from others.
If there is any reason that may motivate people to be more merciful, forgiving, and gracious, it may be this truth that mercy begets mercy and grace begets grace. If you hope to be treated mercifully in your moment of need, then consider how you treat others.
However, an even more urgent truth about mercy and forgiveness holds true for those who follow Jesus. Receiving the mercy and forgiveness of God will radically change your capacity to show mercy and grace to others. If you are judgmental or struggle to forgive, then it is likely that you have not received the mercy and grace that is freely yours from God the Father. Jesus sought to break the destructive cycles of judgment and unforgiveness by offering God’s love and grace to all who were willing to receive it.
Do you need to receive God’s forgiveness and grace today?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for accepting me and saving me long before I was born. May Your grace transform the way I interact with others.
