A Scenario of the End Times
Revelation 13: 2-8: "And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. 3. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast..........And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months......... And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."
Daniel 7: 8: "I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things."
The Little Horn nation is the head - or one of the heads - of the first beast of Revelation 13. Remember that Revelation 13: 2 says this first beast has the traits of the leopard, bear and lion beast kingdoms found in Daniel 7: 4-6. Note that Revelation 13: 2 does not mention the fourth beast empire in Daniel 7: 7, "dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly." This fourth beast opf Daniel 7: 7 is a big part of the first beast in Revelation 13.
Revelation 13: 11-12: "And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 12. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed."
The speaking as a dragon of the second beast of Revelation 13 is very interesting and must point to the method of speaking - and thinking - done by the false prophets following the dragon. There is a method of speaking in dialogue that characterizes the false prophets in the end time. It is called the dialectic.
The reference back to Daniel 7: 4-6 in Revelation 13: 2 - the leopard, bear and lion kingdoms or empires - is important in determining the identity of the first beast of Revelation 13. And like the four beasts in Daniel 7: 4-7, the first beast of Revelation 13 is a nation, though the inclusion of the head of the beast whose deadly wound was healed suggests a composite beast nation. And some have suggested that this first beast is allied with the United Nations. And the head of the beast whose deadly wound was healed in also a nation. though a smaller one - but strong.
The first beast of Revelation 13 is the nation, dreadful, terrible and very strong of Daniel 7: 7, which takes on the traits of the lion, bear and leopard nations, all after the Cross. You have to get all of this right, because otherwise you will not understand what it is saying.
The second beast is not a nation. It is the false prophet, not one man, but an office and the office of false prophet represents the many false prophets of Matthew 24: 11 who are also seen in II Peter 2: 1-3.
The false prophets cause people to honor or worship the first beast - the head of the first beast whose deadly wound was healed in Revelation 13: 12. This is the scenario of the end times.
One main system of false doctrines - that is central to the falling away of II Thessalonians 2: 3-7 - starts from the belief that Christ failed in his mission to save the lost sheep of the house of Israel (Matthew 15: 24), and that Old Covenant Israel remains the chosen people and still has the greater glory existing beside the lesser "Church." "The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former..." Haggai 2: 9.
Matthew 24: 29-30 mentions the tribulation, as does Matthew 24: 21. The inclusion in Matthew 24 of several warnings that Christ gives about not being deceived, the description of the work of the false prophets in Matthew 24: 5, the many false prophets in verse 11, and the statement on the appearance of Daniel's abomination of desolation (Daniel 9: 27), in verse 15 all point to the tribulation as involving, in part, the falling away from the truth of II Thessalonians 2: 3-7.
Then Joel's valley of decision (Joel 3: 14-15) which is there identified as happening when the sun, moon and stars are darkened (this may be metaphorical as well as literal) refers to multitudes of people being in the position of having to make a decision - for or against the truth of the Gospel. And the threshing floor of Jeremiah 51: 33 where Babylon - Israel in apostasy - is threshed, to separate the wheat from the tares also happens in this end time scenario. Isaiah 26: 20 - the indignation of the Lord - also describes the time of the great falling away. And Isaiah 28: 15 says of those in the falling away that they made a covenant with death, and are in agreement with hell, but when the overflowing scourge passes through they think it will not come over them - for they have made lies their refuge and have hidden themselves in falsehood.
But Isaiah 28: 17-18 says God will, with hail, sweep away the refuge of lies, and the covenant with death will be disannulled and the agreement with hell will not stand when the overflowing scourge shall pass through. It does not say exactly what the overflowing scourge is, but it says it will sweep away the lies.
