"When we bend our heads inward and focus intently on our pain or loss, a seed of bitterness is born inside of us. The longer and harder we focus on ourselves, the faster the root of bitterness grows. Then one day, we can't see God working all things together for good anymore. We fall into whining and complaining because we don't believe His promises are true.

When life catches you off guard, it's easy to give in to bitterness, wallowing in the failure and brokenness. Steve Brown writes, 'Bitterness comes from our turning away from the true God. Bitterness--characterized by feelings of hatred, envy, resentment, cynicism, and severity--begins when one turns from God, and it results in a disease that infects others.'

We have a choice. We do not have to allow this life to infect us with the bitter disease. Choosing joy instead of bitterness is mostly about continuing to believe God even when you cannot understand why. Remember that we know the end of the story. To choose joy over bitterness means living in the victory that has already been won."

I was going to quote a couple of sentences
that stuck out to me...but then I realized all of
this is so well written and pointed towards my life
at this very moment. Thanks so much for sharing :)

Father, who knows our hearts, knows when to give a word in season...

I was thinking about these things this morning while I was filling the bird feeder that hangs under a large branch outside my window where I sit and drink my coffee...

Father is watching us from His window..He knows when the bird feeder is getting empty...He also sees the seeds and debris that don`t belong there, and He will remove them, and replenishes our hearts with good seed...

Anywhere two or three gather...like this forum for instance...Father is there in the midst ...making sure we are fed, nourished...He puts seeds in our hands, and causes us to scatter them, a little here, a little there...but He is the one who holds the bag...and the power.

I watched one fairly large black bird this morning eating at the bird feeder...and he kept bristling his feathers at the other birds...he wanted that feeder to himself...and all the other birds were flitting around, watching, waiting, a few brave ones even tried to approach....and he bristled again...I thought you selfish silly bird, if only you knew I have a whole bag of bird seed, and more where that came from, you don`t have to hog the feeder to yourself, and act like you own that feeder.

I learn an incredible lot about Fathers ways from simply watching the birds :embarasse

Bless you dannibear!

This is good! I know a young lady who decided to water that bitterness root Sad. Today it's a full grown tree. Her health is bad, she has taught her children hate, she is not working so is on food stamps. In the end what she has is all the fruits of bitterness and none of the blessing that GOD has heaped upon HIS people.
Coconut You're right. The root of bitterness is to be stamped out, cast out when its first detected. Never wait to get rid if it. :coocoo:
