So David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake [them] and without fail recover [all]." 1 Samuel 30:8 NKJV

Most have been there: you feel a burden or have a plan to do something you believe needs to be done, but you want assurance that God approves. What can you do to move forward confidently knowing you’re doing God’s will?

Today’s scripture is King David’s prayer seeking God’s go-ahead to pursue an enemy who had committed atrocities against a city called Ziklag. David wanted to pursue the enemy forces, so he asks God a very specific question. He asks whether a military venture against the raiders would be successful. God’s answer was a very clear yes, so David launched the campaign. In the end, it was one of David’s finest hours.

None should launch out on big, life-altering ventures without first seeking God’s approval. God promises to hear your prayers and to act on your behalf. That includes giving you approval for plans that are His will for you.

Prayer: Lord, please guide me and direct me as I seek Your will in every area of my life. Let me know when I’m headed in the right direction. When I should stop, or when I should wait.
