We have a show-man in England called Derren Brown whos act is mind control through suggestion as opposed to being a straight forward hypnotist. He truly is a master of his craft. In more amusing examples of his skill you can watch as he asks someone for directions and they end up happily giving him their keys, watches and wallets.Like i said,he has studied human psychology for years and is a master at his craft.
Last year he went to America to do an experiment on belief systems(you dont know him there so he could get away with it).In one of the experiments they advertised for a group of staunch athiests and gathered them together in a hall.Within a short period of time they were claiming their eyes had been opened and were praising Jesus.
At the outset of the programme he specified he was not out to humiliate any group but to demonstrate the power of mass hysteria. He likened it to a football match where often times the crowd almost becomes one,the same with the two extremes of religious service.Firstly quiet surroundings with low chanting and on the opposite end of the scale a mad euphoric frenzy of praise, both of which induce a mild hypnotic state.
It was a very interesting programme and i was wondering if any of you guys out there have had a similar experience? As a nation us Brits are pretty reserved and there isnt really a lot of that "emotional" worship over here but i have seen a fair bit of it on TV.Sometimes it looks fake and other times it looks real.Any comments or veiws appreciated.
