A TWO EDGED SWORD

The Word of God is the "Sword of the Spirit".
The "Sword of the Spirit" is two edged.

...
Why is the Word two edged?

To the born again, Spirit filled, blood bought, Holy Ghost taught Christian it is encouragement, enlightenment, an unveiling of Truth, hope, security, love, joy, gratification, thankfulness; the Holy Spirit within us bares witness of the Truth and is in agreement one with another.

To the hypocrite it cuts through the heart convicting the spirit of sin and they want to fight, persecute, afflict, point fingers, call you the devil, bare false witness against you, justify themselves......... full of doubt, negativity, deceit, hate, gossips, backbiting, lust, bitterness, double minded (two faced), self righteous, complainers, deceiving, contradict, debate...........

What lives in your heart?
If you have not experienced a heart changing experience in the Lord isn't it time to truly REPENT. John the Baptist said it best... "who has warned you vipers of the wrath to come? Now, bring forth gifts worthy of repentance CRYING OUT Abba Father."

He will take your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

Do you know Him?
Is Jesus alive in your heart?

Hello Sister,
Thank you for this post of truth and a reminder to us all.
After reading this Psalm 51:10 started flowing in my heart.
Create in me a "new or pure" heart Oh God and renew a right spirit with in me.
Thank You and
God Bless YOU
Jim

There are layers to every truth of God.

The Word is both Jesus Christ (eternal Word of God) and The Holy Bible (written word of God).

The Word is both convicting and uplifting.

The Word is both Holy and accessible.

The Word brings death (old self) and life (new creation).

A two-edged sword usually means that what works for us in one situation can work against us in another.

Cheers,
John

The situation we prefer to work is for God; right?
So when it works on behalf of God in the spiritual, the physical (carnal, fleshly) has a problem with it.
The Word cuts through the heart and convicts sin; God is happy, but the one cut is offended.

Just as Jesus called the stiff necked high priests "hypocrites"; they hated Him for it and crucified Him.
Are we working for gain in this world or the one God has promised to us.
To live is Christ; to die is gain.

We seek our treasures in heaven; for where our treasure is there shall be our heart also.
The things of this world are temporal and shall perish.

In the physical, carnal world, the Word may appear to work against us (me), but have they did me harm?
No. For my rewards are greater than anything this world can offer.

The Word of God works for believers and for proper beliefs, while it works against unbelievers and against improper beliefs.

The example that comes to mind is when the three Hebrews were thrown into the fiery furnace [Daniel chapter 3]. The seven-fold heat did not hurt them but it burned away the ropes that bound them. On the other hand, the strongest of the heathen soldiers who cast them into that same fire died merely when they came too near.

Good stuff here, would just like to add one ,when a brother or sister looks to cut up another using the Sword,it can also cut us back lol For it does have two sides like sowing and reaping does.

Indeed, the same sword used to cut others also cuts the wielder. That is why we are to take the log out of our "own" eye before we look for the speck in our brothers or sisters eye.

Example: I was recently attacked by a very dark spirit that used a certain man, in front of peers, and all knew that I fight the good fight of faith. This man raged against me and my God; I listened calmly and waited for the Lord's instruction. This man boasted "How do you know it was God in those woods with you? I mean, how do you know that?" And before He could get done the Lord put the answer in my mouth and I simply and calmly spoke, "because He never leaves me or forsakes me." The man hang his head in shame and darkness was defeated. The man approached me away from the others, (now one on one), and hang his head but told me "he believes all that "stuff" in the bible". Not only was his shame shown in the physical but so was the conviction on his heart; he could not raise his head to look me in the eyes.
All praise, glory and honor be to God. Amen
The devil wants to get us in carnal, worldly confrontations...; wait on the Lord. He will give ye what ye ought to say. Amen. He is always there and right on time. He does not lead His children blindfolded; He never has and He never will. I recognize the spirits that speak; and I believed God would provide the way out and HE did, as always. I praise Him for it.
Guys, even the devil is a believer; he is just trying our faith to see if we are a believer. Yes, even the devil has a job to do.

And the devil sure likes to use other Christians to do it too.

Thats because satan loves division amoung his enemies. And christians love to find fault with other christians waaaaay to much. Some even manipulating others to be exactly they way they are, as if they are the pinnacle of faith.

Both of your statements are so true. The Word clearly tells us we do not all have the same job; if all were the eye, where would the hearing be? if all were the hand, where would the foot be? if all were.....
Regardless of the special journey the Lord has each of us on, we are all pushing into the same God and another's words will or will not bare witness with the Spirit that lives within us; now, if it does not bare witness it is my job to speak the Word of Truth, according to scripture, not my own words, baring light on the darkness. Too many people just walk away, not reproving the spirits that speak, but also allowing those listening to believe false witness. I assure you, if it does not bare witness with the Truth; self is not the only one, there is someone in the crowd that is also unsettled. All it takes is one to speak up and God will show up. Amen. Faith without works is dead. If we will have faith in God and speak forth; someone else God will influence to back you up; but we must speak His Word, not debates or confrontations as the world does. When we do these things, we are no better than they; we have become as they are; in which darkness gets only darker, and no Light is shining on a very dark situation. Love and compassion come to mind. I love my Lord and those listening enough to speak the Word; rather than fear what people will think of me. Perfect love caseth out fear... this keeps coming up. Do I love my Lord more than what anyone will think of me, what they may do to me, or yes, my own life too?
It is so very important to KNOW HIM. We are introduced to His Way, His Truth, and His Life; now we are to be Christ like; walk as He walked, speaking in Spirit and in Truth with power and authority. It doesn't matter if they want to fight; we recognize the devils characteristics because we know His characteristics; Amen. Denying the flesh comes up quick when they want to fight, patience and perseverance are tried; we do not fight back; staying silent or only speaking what the Father has spoken to our heart. God always provides away out; until our time is come.
There is nothing above Him and all things are below Him.
All praise, honor, and glory be unto God.
God bless you all for your fellowship. This is a wonderful discussion.

Amen Brad,
Maybe it is just me but it seems that there is a rapid growing move of christians taking scriptures out of context and using them as a right or duty to do this these days.
God Bless You Brad

amadeus2, would I be to far off when I notice The Lords Prayer "Forgive us our Tresspasses as we Forgive Those that Tresspass Against us." Yes the word of the Lord can be a double edged sword because we need to do His will not our's. I don't mean it that we are evil but that it is in human nature or the nature of the world to think of ourselves and we are called not to be of this world.

The Word of God not just 'can be', but is a two-edged sword. When we do God's will it cut for God for us because we are on His side. When we quench the Spirit, will not the blade then move to cause us pain?

God has certainly forgiven those who have trespassed against Him. Does lightning immediately strike the evil doer the first time he does evil? All but two of the adult Israelites coming out of Egypt died before they could enter the Promised Land, but that curse did not come upon them until they had rebelled against God ten times. Jesus said to forgive those who sin against us seventy times seven times. Mercy and forgiveness are necessary, but do they not have a limit? When a person goes beyond the limit, will not the other edge of the blade be brought to bear?

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Heb 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

The Word might be "two edged" but does a lot more than two things.

1 The Word is alive
2 the Word is powerful
3 It is the only thing that can separate the soul from the spirit
4 The Word divides the flesh, from the soul, and from the spirit
5 The Word discriminates our thoughts.
6 The Word knows the intents of our heart.
7 The Word sees all things.
8 Nothing can escape the Words eyes
9 God is the Word.
