Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16 NLT
Men don’t exactly enjoy talking with others about their sin struggles. Maybe it’s your independent spirit that keeps you from that kind of honest confession. Maybe it’s your fear of making yourself vulnerable to others. Maybe it’s your worry about being looked down on because of your real-life struggles.
As uncomfortable as confessing your sin struggles may make you feel, that is exactly what God calls you to do. Today’s verse commands believers to come clean with one another so that you can pray for one another foe healing and victory. There’s another blessing you receive when you confess your sins that way: accountability.
Life experience says your brothers in Christ likely won’t be shocked when you confess a sin you know is holding you back. In fact, when you open the lines of communication by confessing your sins, you often learn that others struggle with the very same sins. That helps you pray for one another and keep each other accountable. That, in turn, leads to victory for all.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I’m not comfortable sharing my struggles and failures with others. Humble me, and help me understand how important it is that I make myself accountable to my brothers in the faith.
