Acne Face Map Guide

In Chinese Medicine, it’s believed that acne that flares up on different parts of your face represents health problems on diff rent parts of your body. Kind of like, this part of your face corresponds to this organ. To know what conditions you’re suffering from, just look at where your acne is.

Bladder & Small Intestine
Poor digestion will cause a buildup of toxins because your body would have problems breaking down food. Be sure to hydrate yourself with plenty of water to flush out the toxins. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables as they are great with removing toxins and less fat and sugar. Sometimes, breakouts may happen if you are intolerant or allergic to certain foods, so be sure to avoid those. Amazing antioxidant rich foods include berries, lemon juice and green tea.

Liver
Liver troubles may flare up by producing oily, red and flaky skin, as well as lots of pimples between both sides of your eyes. An overworked liver will require a good cleanse. Remember that alcohol is very hard work for the liver, so be sure to reduce the amount you’re drinking. This also goes for foods high in fat and sugar. Detox your liver by increasing certain foods such as lemon juice, garlic, turmeric, green tea, carrots, leafy green vegetables, beets and grapefruit, which has great benefits. Also, reduce diary for a while. Diary seems to aggravate acne, especially if you are lactose intolerant.

Kidneys
If your kidneys are weak, the number one thing to do is to drink lots of water. You can flavour water by adding a little lemon or lime juice. It’s always great to drink two glasses of water when you first wake up. Eat foods with lots of water, but limit caffeine, sodium/salt and other things that are stressful to the kidneys. Also, try and cleanse your kidneys with diuretics like parsley.

Lungs
Lungs that are stressed are likely to cause acne around the cheeks. It may even break your capillaries! Things such as asthma, smoking, allergies, lung infections and living in a polluted area could all be causing your lungs to work inefficiently. Be sure to avoid smoking, especially through other people (known as passive smoking), which can be just as bad or worse than actually smoking. Breathe plenty of fresh air and keep your windows open if you can. Be sure to avoid dirty areas as well.

Stomach & Large Intestine
Keep your stomach healthy by focusing on eating healthy, balanced meal each day. Pick foods with different colours, be sure to include lots of fibre (so eat whole wheat rather than white for breads or pasta, and brown rice instead of white). Also, be sure to avoid foods that may give you allergies!

Hormonal
If you fin that your lower chin is flaring up, especially around that time of the month, it can be a sign of hormonal imbalance caused by menstruation. Emotional and physical stress can make matters worse, so be sure to limit the amount of stress and get plenty of sleep. (Often, stress and sleep go hand in hand, so be sure to talk to someone if you are having troubles). Look into supplements that may help with hormonal imbalance, such as evening primrose oil, licorice, schisandra, red raspberry leaves, holy basil, maca, burdock, rhodiola and milk thisle. Also, be sure you’re getting fresh, healthy foods rich with vitamins and minerals, especially magnesium and B6. Also eat oily fish or chia seeds as it has lots of Omega 3. Green tea is also a brilliant anti-androgen and is worthwhile to drink each day.

Heart
The heart is vital for pumping blood throughout the body, so if it’s stressed out due to poor choices in diets, inactivity or other physical or mental stresses, then you’re likely to break out above the eyebrows on your lower forehead, and below the nose. Look after your heart by keeping stresses low, keeping your blood pressure is under control, eat heart healthy foods such as berries, a handful of nuts and oatmeal. Keep a regular exercise regime which lasts about 30 minutes or so and if possible, walk about 10,000 steps a day. And avoid too much fatty and greasy foods as they can clog arteries.

Pancreas
Overloading the body with too much sugar or carbs (especially white sugar and white flour) can cause a rise in blood sugar, which means the pancreas would need to overwork in producing insulin to balance it out. Try and decrease the amount of refined sugar and wheat, switch to wholewheat/wholemeal. Also, try and limit soft drinks and very sweet juices. Try fruit water and tea instead!
