I think it's fantastic that you are seeking the truth and God first and investigating this.
"Remember how you were when you didn't know God, led from one phony god to another, never knowing what you were doing, just doing it because everybody else did it? It's different in this life. God wants us to use our intelligence, to seek to understand as well as we can." (1 Corinthians 12:2)
Do you think perhaps that this feeling of "unsureness" and suspicion is the holy spirit moving in you? I have found that the Spirit of God within our hearts can detect if something is of the Darkness, when we cannot. Light cannot mix with darkness (which is one reason the bible says to not be unequally yoked/partnered with unbelievers). Always respond to the tug of the Holy Spirit. God wants to take our hand in his and guide us through unknown country so that we don't fall into holes. But we have to let him lead us.
Here's an easy test to see if something is of God or the Devil: Is it giving something other than the sufficiency of Christ and the scriptures to meet the needs and problems of the human heart? Is this God centered or Self centered? Is this relying on the sufficiency of Christ or of Self (or something else)?
Satan's goal, remember, is to lead us/keep us away from Jesus, blind us to the truth of the gospel and oppose God's work. He is constantly figuring out ways to lure unbelievers and believers into his trap and trip us up. “The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping.” (1 Timothy 3:7, 2 Timothy 2:26, 1 Peter 5:8). Satan tries to stop God's work wherever it is taking place. "To accomplish this he schemes and works every way he can, and he is behind all the evil that takes place in the world. His name—Satan—literally means 'Adversary'—and that is what he is: our adversary."~Billy Graham
He dresses up as something beautiful, as "a beautiful angel of light." (2 Corinthians 11:14) Like the evil witch in Snow White, he makes what is lethal appear attractive. In the garden, he made Evil (the knowledge of Evil) appear attractive. But, Satan is wicked, evil and malicious, fierce and cruel, and intent on destroying us. (1 John 2:3, Job 1:9, Job 2:4, Luke 8:29, 9:39, 42; 1 Peter 5:8).
Satan’s primary technique is the first one he used: to get us to turn against God, reject him, affront him and (whether we realize or not) curse him in our hearts and set up our own will as rule and our own glory at the end of our actions. Basically, turn from the worship of God to the worship of self; love ourselves above God--in opposition to God and with contempt of God. This self-worship and self-love is the core of the sin problem and the gateway to all iniquity. Sin is what happens when we replace the love and will of God with the love and will of Self.
Satan is preying on the deep needs of the human heart (including our need to belong and to worship), our tendency toward self-centeredness (as opposed to God-centeredness), keeping us focused on ourselves (our pleasures, desires, solutions, "answers" etc....) instead of on God, where real and lasting life is found.
God loves you so much that he gave his very life just to be with you. He wants to be the center of your heart and life and the One who meets all your needs (he is committed to doing so) and the one you go to when you're hurting, for comfort and deep healing. He wants you to come to know him, his immense love, his lavish goodness, his dependable strength, his complete sufficiency. He wants you to go to His word and ask him to speak to your heart. He wants you to tell him everything you are feeling and pour out your heart to him so that he can pour wellsprings of living water back in. He cares deeply when you hurt, his pain is your pain. Your pain brings tears to his love filled eyes. He weeps over every piece of your broken heart. He wants to bandage your wounds, lift your head, put his hand in yours, hold you in his arms and quiet you and make you whole with his love. He wants you to cast all your cares on him and carry all your burdens for you, because he cares for you. He wants you to run to him and trust in him and rely on him. You were created for him, for his love. You were created for a relationship with your true Prince, who will one day sweep you into his arms and carry you to his land to cherish as his princess forever.
If you are feeling a depression or anxiety that does not seem to have a source (I speak from experience), it's possible you are dealing with a mental illness (where the brain isn't functioning properly)(such as Bipolar Disorder, which I have experienced) or even demonic oppression (which I have also experienced). If it's a result of a mental illness there are many natural modes of treatments and medicines out there and professionals who can really help (I'll send you a list of proven tips, if that is indeed what you are struggling with) . If it is direct mental oppression, then you can and will find freedom through the truth, authority and power of Christ (I'll tell you more if that is what you are dealing with).
You are on the right track already, searching for the truth. "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." (Jesus) And you were right to question accupuncture.
Accupuncture is rooted in the occult and part of a false Chinese religion and one of the many products of the Devil that promises self-fulfillment, personal well-being, healing, a quick fix and life-transforming results, while shifting faith and worship from God to man and turning us from Christ's sufficiency to our insufficiency--or worse, the powers of darkness intent on destroying us.
To quote from gotquestionsdotorg:
"The origin of acupuncture is Chinese and it is a teaching of Taoism. Taoism is the philosophical system evolved by Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu and that advocates a life of complete simplicity and naturalness and of non-interference with the course of natural events in order to attain a happy existence in harmony with the tao, or life force. It is also called Hsuan Chaio, which is a popular Chinese religion that purports to be based on the doctrines of Lao-tzu but which is actually highly eclectic in nature and characterized by a pantheon of many gods, superstitions, and the practice of alchemy, divination and magic.
"In this Chinese philosophy and religion there are two principles. The first is the "yin," which is negative, dark and feminine, and the second is "yang," which is positive, bright and masculine. The interaction of these two forces is thought to be the guiding influence for the destinies of all creatures and things. In other words, there is no place for the one true God of the universe in this false religion. One’s fate is under the power of the balance or imbalance of these two forces. Acupuncture is an attempt to bring these two forces (yin and yang) into harmony and therefore positively affect the "destiny" or the health of the body. Acupuncture then is a mechanism practiced by adherents of Taoism that is used to bring the "yin and yang" of the body into harmony with tao and it is based in a false religion.
"With that information as a basis, can we find an answer about false religion in Scripture? The answer is yes. There are numerous commands to Israel by God that deal with the false gods of the pagans that surrounded them. We find many of these commandments in Leviticus and again in Deuteronomy. However the first commandment God gave to Israel is the foundation of all of these commandments. "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me" (Exodus 20:3).
"The question of whether acupuncture is biblical is answered by the first commandment from the Old Testament that is repeated in the New Testament (Matthew 22:37-40). Any practice that is part of a false religion is not biblical. The fact that our society has been inundated by imported Eastern religions and "New Age" practices is another sign of the "last days" (2 Timothy 3:1-7). However, these things are not "new" at all. Rather, they are the old counterfeit religions masquerading as legitimate practices. No wonder the Apostle Paul warned us that Satan and his ministers masqueraded as angels of light. "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve" (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).
"Adding the word "Christian" to something does not legitimize it nor does it make it biblical. The term "Christian acupuncture" is what is known as an "oxymoron" or a self-contradiction. In other words, the two words cancel out each other. Acupuncture is not based in the foundations of Christianity. The definition of a Christian means a follower of Christ. Acupuncture is a practice of an ancient Chinese religion and philosophy that has no place in the life of a born again believer. Acupuncture may seem harmless and innocuous and perhaps even "beneficial" but it can be a doorway to the occult. William Divine, chairman of the California Acupuncture Association said, "You could bring one patient in and five different practitioners could look at him and they would come up with five different diagnoses and none of them would be wrong." In other words, none of these five practitioners know the truth. They are all operating from their own opinions based in superstition rather than a diagnosis based in true knowledge. A needle piercing the skin could conceivably cause a beneficial reaction to a nerve, but that is not the original theory behind the practice of acupuncture. There are many who are practitioners of this philosophy that are deceived as to its true origin and what they are really involved with.
"As to the difference between acupuncture and acupressure, instead of needles, pressure is placed upon nerve centers. For instance there are pressure points said to be in the sole of the foot and the palm of the hand that correspond to other areas of the body. Acupressure would seem to mean the same as deep massage therapy where the muscles of the body are exposed to pressure to increase blood flow. However, if the process is practiced to bring the body into the harmony of yin and yang, then it is rooted in occultism. The question becomes is it being practiced as part and parcel of the same philosophic origins of Chinese acupuncture? The answer to that question should be the guiding issue.
"The important issue here is separation for the born-again believer from any and all practices that would bring them the danger of bondage to counterfeit religions. Ignorance of evil is a danger and the more we inform ourselves as to the true origin of the Eastern philosophies and practices, the more we see that they are rooted in superstition, occultism and false religions that are in direct opposition to God's Word. The world's false religions teach that there are "many paths to God." This is the ultimate lie. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, except through Me" (John 14:6). None of the counterfeit religions can bring us into harmony with God. The only way is through the Lord Jesus Christ."
"The thief [Satan]
comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I came so they can have real
and eternal life,
more and better life
than they ever dreamed of."
(Jesus, John 10:10, NLT and MSG)
“This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, his one and only Son.
And this is why:
so that no one need be destroyed;
by believing in him,
anyone can have a whole and lasting life.”
(John 3:16)
Turn now to Jesus.
