This is the ritual of the law which the Lord has commanded: Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without spot, in which is no blemish, upon which a yoke has never come. And you shall give her to Eleazar the priest, and he shall bring her outside the camp, and she shall be slaughtered before him. Numbers 19:2-3 AMPC

What’s the deal with the red cow? An unblemished heifer that never saw rider or yoke, its sacrifice performed outside the camp of Israel, its blood sprinkled toward the altar, its ashes used to purify anyone who’d been in contact with the dead—strange, but it all points to the sacrificial, healing death of Christ.

The crazier the world gets—the more divisive and godless and violent—the easier it is for people, even Christians, to say, “Where is God?” The red cow reminds us: everywhere. When we return to God’s Word and look for His fingerprints on history, our confidence in His sovereignty is renewed. If it’s not all okay yet, it’s because He isn’t finished yet. History is indeed His story, and the Bible shows us the remarkable tapestry He has been weaving since before He invented time—and it all centers on the Messiah, Jesus Christ.

Since God can handle all those details, He can tend to every detail of your life too. It’s all in His hands.

Prayer: Lord God, no detail goes unnoticed by You. Thank You for sending Jesus to save us, for everything You have ever done to reveal the good news to the world.
