The books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy, are past ways in which God dealt with Israel in forming them into a nation. Even in the laws of Moses we have thou shalt not kill. In our day and time there is no way to stop war from continuing. It is due to the sin of fallen man.
To be a leader of a nation, will only put a PERSON IN A POSITION TO LEAD THAT NATION TO WAR IF NEEDED. That is why a Christian cannot be a leader of a nation. He must make many compromises, even sin if needed.
In the new testament the sermon on the mount teaches one to turn the other cheek. If all the soldiers in our country did that they would be ruined. That is a sad situation, but there is hope. Faith would have to be tremendous to be like Joshua who found he was deceived by the Gilead peoples who were scarred because they knew Israel would destroy them if they didn't secretly join them and pretend to be friendly.
Outside of Christianity, which many do not choose Christianity, it is only a path in a predestined way to no hope or answers--only good luck. The only choice a Christian has is to stay out of leadership and the military. It is a issue of ethics. antinomian lawless ones will do as they please. God expects obedience to his word and we all pay the consequences of disobey.
In Daniel ch.4: Nebuchadnezzar learned the hard way that God must be obeyed. As I read this post almost think I must look like a prophet.

brodav9: A leader of any nation has the responsibility to protect the people. We as Christian men, maried with children are to protect our family at all cost. In the OT many times God told His leaders to fight and kill everyone on the wrong side. That did not make the Leaders in the OT less of a believer in YAHWEH. They followed the Lord.

I fail to see why a Christian could not be a grunt, or a sargent. a General, or even a President in the service of our country. If you or anyone else feel as aChristian you could not use a wepon in time of war and face to face combat, there are provisions for those who feel it would be against their belief.

Personally I think if President Barry Serento Obama ( Barry changed his name to a more Muslin sounding name) continues his agenda to change things more in line with Muslim thinking and pushing a homosexual agenda upon our country, we couldl be in a civil war. With gun control still being brought up in government places we best be prepared, as Christians. I would defend my family with no doubt. Consider what our state's responsibility is in protecting us, Christian's would be called to action. I see nothing in Scripture that would prevent such.

Psalm 144:1-2

Blessed be the LORD, my rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers for battle; My lovingkindness and my fortress, My stronghold and my deliverer; My shield and He in whom I take refuge; Who subdues my people under me.

Ecclesiastes 3:8

A time to love, and a time to hate; A time for war, and a time for peace.

1 Chronicles 5:20
And they were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hand; for they cried out to God in the battle, and He was entreated for them, because they trusted in Him.

Seriously? Peace at any cost?
We are called to be peaceful when we can. (Rom 12:18; Heb 12:14)
Would you idly sit by and watch your family be accosted or tortured? You really think God wants that?
We are called to defend our faith and stand up for our beliefs. (Php 1:16)
Anyone who threatens my family or forces their beliefs on us better bring their lunch.
But we definitely are not called to be pacifists under every circumstance. (Luke 14:31 and 1Cor 14:8; Matt 10:34; Rev 19:15-21)
The Bible says there will be wars and these things must come to pass. (Matt 24:6; Mark 13:7; Luke 21:9)
We are not be swept along by every new doctrine that comes along (Eph 4:14)

What about spiritual peace at any cost?
Eph 6:17; Heb 4:12; Rev 12:7; Eph 6:12
The body is temporary but the soul is eternal.

Notice all the verses above are in the New Testament.
In the OT you have stories like...
1Sam 18:7-8; Judges 15:15-16 and 1Kings 18:40;
Do you truly believe making Israel a nation is God's plan on this world? Does he still not have other plans?

LOL Very cool posts all of you!! There are some areas I know in my life, I cannot step into,oh I could!! LOL But flesh would get in the way! This topic is one of those steps I will not take. I respect both sides of the issue here.I will leave it at that.

Though we know thou shalt not kill--the law is fulfilled by love.
love thy neighbor as thyself, even love your enemies.
If you read Foxes book of Martyrs you will see where they turned their family over to be killed, burned , hanged etc. That is why Jesus says resist not evil. When he was reviled he reviled not again
turn the other cheek, if they take your coat give your cloke also.
Jesus was not the only one who went quietly to the cross, Heb. 11: is full of those who didn't resist.
Blessed are you when you are persecuted Matt. 5:

You must now where you are going if you are willing to obey Christ and walk in his foot steps, if the world hated me then it will hate you also.
We live in a time where the churches teach a liberal form of doctrine, Jesus says he who loses his life for my sake will save it.
I know many who will say they are taught dying for Christ is a thing only when harmed by certain people.
We are getting close to that time where Christians and Jews must be done away with. Most are in a comfort zone and have no knowledge that 200-300,000 Christians are dying per year in Europe.
We must know we are going to heaven.
I speak out of experience 45 years of persecution and have seen God deliver me every time. I am not holding on to this world, for me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Stephen didn't resist he saw Jesus and arms wide open waiting for him to come up.

There are so many scriptures telling us how to live, the above is just scratching the surface. I speak in love when I share this post and ask that you pray about these things with fear and trembling, I had to. By the way I have died already and have been resurected. Gal. 2:20

I think there is a difference between martyrdom and war one is using your life to show unbelievers what Christ has done in your life and your willingness to die for Jesus.
War is the defense of your country government and the right for people to chose how they live their lives.
