are Christians suppose to make disciples?

1Co 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
Being a "Disciple" would be someone who learns from another who is more informed on spiritual things. Since we all are on different plains of spiritual growth, there always should be someone younger in the Lord that could be helped understanding some of the more deeper things of God by the grace of God within us. The body of Christ should minister to each other in love.
Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
These things can, and are being done on this forum.

This is sort of a trick question...
Are we supposed to have disciples?
I don't think we should have disciples that follow us... "I am a disciple of Bob".
However, I do think we can disciple other people to be like Christ...
We may be the ones disciplining them... but the are disciples ( followers) of Jesus.

I think one of proofs that God uses his body to minister to each other is found in the fact that when we learn something new from a brother or sister, we don't remember the name of the person we learned it from, except all we remember is it came from God. We do not want any praise to our self s, but to the one who gives us all things richly to enjoy. The true Wisdom comes down from the Father lights who sit on his throne, and also within us.

Yes, have and make are 2 different things, I would say.
Make disciples YES! Meaning: making them students of the scripture

I believe we need to make disciples for Him. People that follow Him. As the verse in Matthew 28:19,20 says: " Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teachings them to observe all things that I have commanded you... " Notice that He told the disciples to teach the others what HE commanded them.
And here it doesn't say that the disciples are ours. The downfall usually happens when people follow other people. And this is because they are just people. And people can fail. They can have times when they lack in certain things. It doesn't mean they cannot teach someone. They can, but the other people must put their sight in Jesus, not in them. Even when we learn something from somebody our sight still need to be placed in Jesus. As Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 " Test all things; hold fast what is good. "
We need to follow them just in those things coming from God in their lifes. And people are obviously used by God. The same as the example of John the Baptist. He was having disciples, and He was used as well to prepare the way for the Messiah. I believe God wants to use us to prepare the way for Him in people's hearts. Many times he ( John the Baptist ) said " After me is coming someone... " His disciples eventually became Jesus's disciples. 1 John 35, 36, 37. And that's the purpose. If we can humbly lead someone, it can be only to a point, until he finds Jesus and becomes His. We can be only used to prepare people and proclaim the kingdom of God with the ultimate purpose for them to follow Him.

Yes we are. We are the salt and light if the world. We must make desciples by showing love to others. I guess you can say that my wife and those two missionaries were my desciples. If it wasn't for them doing their part I'd either be in Hell or never have gotten my salvation.

Just because you have become "Born again" does not make you a "disciple of Jesus" and just because you been saved 20 years does not qualify you to make one. How can you make something you are not. Just because you are a child of God does not make you a "Disciple of Jesus Christ". But you can be a "witness".
Being a 'witness' is part Of being a disciple of Jesus Christ. People are observing your life and it Should be 'witnessing' to others 'Jesus Christ'.
A person having been saved for 20 years -- there Should be spiritual growth taking place.
Being a child of God Should be reflecting Jesus Christ to others. That person Should be a disciple -- a follower Of.

Good question!
We are called to make disciples by teaching them to obey the commands of Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20), but we are not supposed to have our own disciples in the sense of having and teaching others our own teachings or interpretations.

So you are saying there should be no teachers or preachers or prophetical saying at all?
@whitehorse -- we Are to be teaching God's Word -- not our own version Of it. Scripturally -- being a Bible teacher / preacher is a higher calling of God for a person. And Scripture Also says to question when we have questions.
There are those who have a gift for being able to explain Scripture in a more understandable way. But they are not above being questioned.

So rightly quoted; Matthew 28: 18-20. I think Jesus was talking to "His" disciples who he taught in that part of scripture. But, I do not know who taught these "disciples" we got today! They are truly disciples alright, blowing in every direction! Cannot agree on nothing, every body got their own "Intrepretations" they cherry pick, what they don't like, what the Bible is saying, and skip over it, or place a "Hot branding iron" over the sentence, or rewrite "The Book"! Yes They are making "disciples" alright!

Every believer receives a spiritual gift when they become a believer.
No one is to be 'cherry picking' Scripture -- context is necessary in every case. And That is what tends to cause problems.
We need to be reading / learning God's Word In Context. God's Word has a way of going Against what 'society' wants to do.
A disciple is Supposed to be following God's Word. The New Testament is alive and well.
