Are Prophets Real or Do You Believe In Them? Questions For Everyone to Answer

I have a question for most of you. Do you believe in true prophets or do you like prophets that are sometimes correct and sometimes not? There is a difference between the two and I'm curious if you would like a true PROPHET LIKE MOSES IN THE LAST DAYS?
If you knew who I was you would be surprised
So, if you have problems with prophets I need to know by this question, do you only believe that prophets were in the past and never to return or do you think it's possible to have another prophet on this planet?
.
If you have like and hate people do you still believe in prophets? What do you do if you find yourself really disliking people in general and then saying "prophets are real!" what kind of person are you?
.
So I have a question for you, if I WERE THE MODERN DAY MOSES WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO THAT? WOULD YOU ASK ME QUESTIONS OR WOULD YOU DENY ME WHO I AM?
.
If you answer at all I'll be appreciative. I am a servant of God. I am actually a prophet that is learning TRUTH. However, God is actually teaching me. That will sound either crazy or insane to some and really out there to the rest of you, but you read the bible and so I wonder why you think this sometimes, so I'll ask this, do you hate bible prophecy or do you hate prophecy these days that are really really not prophecy and you believe that anyone who claims to hear God is actually hearing themselves talk or their own ideas or something else instead?
.
If you have people who are interested in a true prophet then why is it so hard to believe that I COULD BE HIM?
.
Why is it hard to believe that MOSES in THIS DAY COULD LIVE? I'm curious about this honestly and want to hear your response. Please write something.
.
If you believe in prophets why do you hate them if they're in this day and age? This means you kind of believe them, kind of don't that's what I mean.
.
And one last question, do you believe in God or the Devil at all? Do you believe in continual revelation or not? Do you believe that God can speak today to people? OR NO? Did you have a bad experience with this kind of person or is it something else? Let me know Thank you
Amen

Prophesy is one of the Spoken gifts enumerated in 1 Cor 12. Consequently it exists as a viable ministry. IF a person speaks words that are supplied to them BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, and doesn't add thereto, or subtract therefrom, then they are speaking prophetically, and what they speak will come to pass. If it doesn't, then they're not speaking prophetically at all. simple as that.

The GIft of Prophesy is as functional in 2023 as it was in 23 A.D.

There are many phonies. There always have been. Eschatology phonys seem to be growing on trees these days.

The gift of prophecy is one of the voice gifts that are operated in a proper Pentecostal assembly meeting; along with the voice gifts of tongues and interpretation.
Are all prophets? Certainly not. Some people operate this gift at our meetings not all. And it is usually the same people who do this.
As for prophecy - inspired speaking by the Holy Spirit - it is not like the offerings on YouTube.
God does indeed speak to his elect through the voice gifts, but as for prophecy it is not about what is going to happen next week or next month.
When the prophets speak it is mostly about the body of Christ - our faith - our shortcomings - our encouragement - to do better - to be aware of what is coming upon the Earth very soon - to love one another.
Are we in the end days? - certainly.
But God has not given us the hour nor the day. He works at preparing us to be strong in the faith and to care more for each other.
And we are constantly commanded to go out and preach the full gospel of salvation as there are still people in the world seeking the truth.

Dear @TheTrueServant
First be welcome to Talk Jesus an online community of Jesus Christ believers!
Second, are you Male or Female? This way I can edit your bio to reflect the one appropriate for you. :)
This will allow you to access the Forums for either Men or Women appropriate for the one that you are.

A lot of questions in one post! However, to answer the general question within the scope of your post. I have no problem with Prophets, until they are proven wrong, or go contrary to Scripture. Understanding that their accountability is in more serious hands than yours or mine.

Now one question for you :)
Since I see that you are from Salt Lake City, I can't help but ask "Are you Mormon"?

With the Love of Christ Jesus, again be welcomed!

The answer you seek can be found in Deuteronomy 18:15-22 (ESV):

“The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me (Moses) from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen— just as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more, lest I die.’ And the Lord said to me, ‘They are right in what they have spoken. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. And I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. And whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him.

But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.

This is a specific prophecy of Jesus/Yeshua, but it is also applicable to any prophet after him. "Prophet" is not limited to a seer who can predict the future, it could be any public speaker with a platform and an audience, and this passage is the standard to determine whether they're a true prophet of God or a phony. Anyone who speaks truth to power against the lying narrative is a prophet. These days, anyone who dares to make a public statement that God created MALE and FEMALE in HIS image is a prophet.

I Thessalonians 5: 20-21 NASB 1977 A.D.51 the year this letter Paul wrote to the believers in Thessalonica from "Corinth"
"20do not despise prophetic utterances. 21But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; 22abstain from every form of evil."

I Corinthians 14: NASB 1077 A.D. 56 written by Paul.
For You Can All Prophesy One By One, So that all may learn and all may be exhorted; 32and The Spirits Of Prophets Are Subject To Prophets; 33for God Is Not A God Of Confusion but of peace, as in all the Assemblies of the Saints. [Where ever Saints are Assembled]!
NASB 1977 Acts 13: 1 A.D. 60 written by Paul
Now there were at Antioch, in the [Congregation] that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

The Supremacy of the Son
1On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets. 2But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.

Micah 7
…4The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is sharper than a hedge of thorns. The day for your watchmen has come, the day of your visitation. Now is the time of their confusion. 5Do not rely on a friend; do not trustin a companion. Seal the doors of your mouthfrom her who lies in your arms. 6For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies are the members of his own household
Jeremiah 9 BSB
…3“They bend their tongues like bows; lies prevail over truth in the land. For they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not take Me into account,” declares the LORD. 4“Let everyoneguard against his neighbor; do not trust anybrother, for every brother deals craftily, and everyfriend spreads slander. 5Each one betrays his friend; no one tells the truth. They have taught their tongues to lie; they wear themselves out committing iniquity.…

So you are a prophet of God who has not even acknowleged the Son of God Jesus Christ (at all) in your post?

Here are some examples showing the Prophet like unto thee is Christ and also examples of false prophets (chaff)

Deut 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee,
and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

As Jesus confirms

John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment,
what I should say, and what I should speak.

Nest verse in Deut

Deut 18:19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

The word Jesus had spoken would be required of whoever will not hearken unto them as Jesus confirms

John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken,
the same shall judge him in the last day.

The Apostles confirm this is Jesus Christ

Acts 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me;
him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.

Acts 3:23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

And again here confirming this is Jesus Christ

Acts 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren,
like unto me; him shall ye hear.

As Jesus also said,

John 5:46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

Because Moses was for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after (by Jesus Christ)

Jesus continues,

John 5:47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Hebrews 3:5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after

As God spoke by Moses, saying He would put His words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And Jesus confirms
the same saying, I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment,
what I should say, and what I should speak. In John 7:16 Jesus also says, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

The first part of Deut 18:18-19 is speaking of Jesus, and next speaks of a prophet that shall presume to speak a word in his name
which he had not commanded here.

Deut 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak,
or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. (exammple of this, Jerm 28:17, 2 Peter 2:1)

Hebrews states, that

Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds

Jeremiah 23:28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully.
What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD.

And His word is a fire. Speaking of the chaff and wheat it speaks of the same here

Mat 3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner;
but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Now here it says,

1 Cr 14:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

Which also in Jerm 28:1-17 Two prophets speaking in the presence of all where the prophet Jeremiah corrected the prophet Hananiah
in accord with the prophets that were before either of them. Hananiah speaking lies and Jeremiah speaking according to the former prophets
(by whom the word of God came). Both doing so in the presence of the priests and all the people in the house of the LORD.

The prophet Hananiah was teaching a lie, and when he was reproved and continued on lying and would end up dead.

As it says here,

Deut 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak,
or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

This same is shown here

Jeremiah 28:15 Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah;
The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.

Jeremiah 28:16 Therefore thus saith the LORD;
Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD.

And we see according to the word of the LORD it come to pass he died

Jeremiah 28:17 So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

False prophets and the swift destruction they would bring upon themselves is spoken of here in Peter as well.

2Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you,
who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

Think about this…

Romans 10:15
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

How many preachers has there been over the past 2 thousand years that have not been truly chosen by God, anointed by God, and sent by God to preach?

Jesus said there would be many.

Hello there,

I believe that we now have the sum total of Divine Truth, within the pages of the Bible.

Thank you

Acts 2:17; 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS;
Acts 2:18; EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy.
1Cor 13:9; For we know in part and we prophesy in part;
1Cor 14:1; Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

Prophets of today don't add or take away anything from the Bible. There were plenty of prophets in the Bible, some even in the New Testament that we don't know what prophecies they made.

Luke 2:36; And there was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage,
Acts 11:28; One of them named Agabus stood up and began to indicate by the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all over the world. And this took place in the reign of Claudius.
Acts 21:10; As we were staying there for some days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.
Acts 15:32; Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brethren with a lengthy message.

Indeed most of the apostles never wrote books of the Bible, and a few we don't have any quotes from. But God still speaks to and through people even today.
If He doesn't, then nothing any of us are writing here is from God.

Hello @B-A-C,

Although your entry was not addressed to me, it did follow mine, so I believe you may have intended it to be a response to what I said in reply #10. So, just in case that is so, I will respond. :)

* Just prior to the Lord's return the words of Joel, which began to find fulfillment in the events at Pentecost, as Peter said in Acts 2:16, shall take place, but those days have yet to come.

* The four apostles chosen by God to write the gospels did so under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

* We all share with each other the word of God that we have received via His Word, which is written and available to all. We have no fresh revelation from above, all is written, and revealed to us by the Holy Spirit through the written word.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

In regards to "Romans 10:15 quote:
Your quote:

1. For one thing how and why it had to be "PROCLAIM" by a "Herald" dated A.D. 56 The letter to The Romans was written to The "Congregation" in Rome.
2. The Quote in the letter also; "How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! it was a letter and not made up of verses. Verses does not reveal what is in The Letter.

Can a person determines what a letter is talking about just by taking One mere line and can determine what the paragraph means or the line, even in the "English Language?

A very bad piece of a letter to describe what you are trying to "Confirm". and it is sad. Very sad:pensive: and the worst part, many have no idea how sad it is. "In these last days GOD has Spoken to us By His SON." The date that this was Spoken, the writer received this Revelation From The Father through the SON was: "A.D. 68"

Dates and era mean something, concerning the Biblical text to some and not all.:pensive: and in writings with GOD they mean a lot.

Your quote: "Think about this"
It’s not really that hard to comprehend; some are sent by God, while the false prophets are not sent by God.

And how shall they preach, except they be sent?

A few examples…

Jeremiah 14:14 “Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

Jeremiah 14:15
Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

Jeremiah 23:21
I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: Ihave not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

Jeremiah 23:32
Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.

Some are sent by God…

Jeremiah 25:4
And the Lord hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.

Jeremiah 26:5
To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have nothearkened;

And some are not sent by God…

Jeremiah 27:15
For I have not sent them, saith the Lord, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

Jeremiah 29:9
For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the Lord.

Some are sent by God…

Jeremiah 29:19
Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the Lord, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the Lord.

And again, some are not sent by God….

Jeremiah 29:31
Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the Lord concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

And again, some are sent by God…

Jeremiah 35:15
I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

Jeremiah 44:4
Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that Ihate.

I could post a lot more examples but I believe most people will get my point.

* Just prior to the Lord's return the words of Joel, which began to find fulfillment in the events at Pentecost, as Peter said in Acts 2:16, shall take place, but those days have yet to come.

Look around, they're here.

* The four apostles chosen by God to write the gospels did so under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

Which four are referring to?

Matthew? John? Paul? James? Jude? ( 5) ... of course Mark and Luke are never called apostles. So really only two who were apostles wrote "the gospels".
But James and Jude were apostles who wrote books in the Bible.

Hello @B-A-C,

Yes, the times are drawing near, but they have not reached the events of Joel's prophecy, (quoted by Peter in the book of the Acts of the Apostles), yet.: and, Yes, the writers of the gospels were not all, 'Apostles', or of the twelve whom the Lord chose. However the question is in regard to the role of Prophets in this present day, and not these incidental matters,

The Holy Spirit told Paul, through the mouths of many of the believers that he met along the way to Jerusalem, and to Himself also, that prison awaited him. On that level the word of prophecy still exists today, and a word of knowledge is also given within the assembly of believers, concerning the written word , it's meaning and application. That is all part of mutual edification and growth. Yet in regard to doctrine, practice and of things to come, we have all that is needful within the written word, and God has given no further word.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Really !!
That is quite a claim.
You have not been to one of our assembly meetings where the voice gifts of the Holy Spirit are operated in accordance with scripture.

I take it you do not believe in the gifts today such as tongues??
