In order to receive our blessing through Christ(Salvation) we must first be humbled. We must understand that our salvation is not owed to us because in no way has it ever been so. This thought has never screamed so loudly to me then just the other day, I was waiting in line at a toll booth and saw a Gypsy with a little cup begging for change. It reminded me of our relationship with Our Lord. We are poor without Christ, we are beggars! Up until that moment my outlook on these gypsies have been different.

I love to donate to charities and I worked for the salvation army for 4 years but when it came to a beggar I thought them lazy and would most likely not give them my spare change. However God opened my eyes to my error in his own wonderful way. I saw myself in that Begger, I saw need and suffering longing for just a little help. Who are we then to judge what she has done to be placed in this situation, has Christ ever decided against giving us salvation because how we got ourselves in our own sin? The answer is no, when we come to Our Lord for redemption he gives even when we don't deserve it.

God corrected my sin against all those who needed from me that I denied in my selfishness. He also shined a light on the likeness of the life of the Begger and the life of the Christian. What helped in the acceleration of this thought and correction was the sermon my Chaplain had just given the last Sunday about the woman who begged fro the healing of her daughter in MATT 15:22-28. Jesus strategically put the woman in a position to either give up and let her daughter die or tell Jesus that she would take even the leftover of a blessing meant for other people. She chose to beg and take the crumbs, and Christ rewarded her with the full blessing for her persistence.

We are all beggars, nothing is owed to us through Christ. It is time we humble ourselves and accept what God put in our path whether it be blessings or trials. For blessings will come from trials, and blessings without humility will bring trials. Stop the cycle- be humbled.

Thanks for reading I hope this can help you or someone you know, and please add you own thoughts.

I felt humbled when I read your post JA0522,

I am glad God decided to show you what you needed to see, I am in a similar situation in my life, I live in South Africa and there are a lot of poor people here, I have been convicted about a year ago about the same thing, to open my heart, maybe just listen, give what I am capable of giving and leave the rest to God.

We should help the poor and you made a good analogy, we are indeed beggars, yet I think, I would rather beg forever from my Lord, beg at his feet than live a life of pride.

God bless your heart.
Much love
