Being Christlike
(by ex-convict Harold Morris, Excerpted from his great book, "Twice Pardoned")
"...The church is the biggest tombstone of all - a monument among the dead. When Jesus died on the cross to save us from sin, His purpose was not only to provide a way for us to enter heaven but also to make us more like Himself, that we might minister to others in His name. He instructed us to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to visit those who are sick and in prison. Christ wants us to be instruments through whom the needs of the people can be met. We can never have the kind of life He wants us to have until we learn to love others in His name
We seem to forget verses such as 1 John 3:17-18: "But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in Him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth."
How can we say we love Jesus if we do not care about the suffering people whom Jesus loves? We have excess wealth, yet refuse to share it with those who are starving. Being Christlike is caring about the hungry, the naked, the sick, and the imprisoned.. .
Where is the church?
...People are waiting to see what we will do with our lives. If God could use a shepherd boy to witness to a king, and ex-convict 62345 to witness to prisoners, parents, and teens, surely He can use you. There is no limit to what He can do with an individual who is faithful and follows Him, wherever He may lead."
