He (Jesus) did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief
Matthew 13: 58
The power of Jesus was no different in Nazareth from what is was in Capernaum. The power of Jesus does not change to heal, and to cast out demons depending upon locality. Let us not insult him by thinking that it does. This age has not yet got out of the control of Jesus. Let us not insult Him by thinking it has! He still can do things....."what no other can do".....Amen?
What may have changed is our ability to believe Him. It is here that the Spirit of God would bring His thrust; this is the sin that He wants to pinpoint.
If you want to see just how great is the sin of unbelief today, contrast it with the moment when the early church went out to face impossibilities. Here stand Peter and John, defending their faith before the Sanhedrin. A body of men the highest court in Israel.
Yet they put aside their business to question these two. Such was the notoriety surrounding the believers. Remembering that Peter had failed before a serving maid, what hope had they to defend the Christian Faith before these men?
None at all we would think. But they went and did.
To recall the fierce persecution surrounding the Christian Church, and the raging of Saul of Tarsus? Was it ever possible that they could triumph?
History records that they did.
They did not pray......"Dear Lord take away this persecution, keep us safe in these days of testing.........." Absolutely not!
This is what they prayed "Lord give us grace to speak thy word with boldness........that signs and wonders may be done in the name of Thy Holy Child Jesus"......They prayed "Lord take the initiative, transform this situation into glory for Thy Holy Name"
Would you, dare to pray that prayer today? In the face of moral decay. and intense opposition to Christian teaching and belief?
Can you say Amen? This is what Jesus wants? That God will not just stem the tide of unbelief, but that He by His Almighty power will transform it into signal victory for His Names sake.
This is faith.
