To start a conflict is to release a flood; stop the dispute before it breaks out. Proverbs 17:14 CSB

Chapters of the book of Proverbs are like shells in a shotgun. To read them is to pull the trigger. The resulting blast sprays individual pellets, many of which hit a target. Today’s scripture likely strikes many of us.

How easy it is to pop off, lashing out with irritation, sarcasm, or insult. Sinful human nature—even the nature blessed by the presence of God’s Holy Spirit—is prone to conflict. We want what we want, and everyone else is an obstacle! So, in big ways and small, our common temptation is to seek the advantage, to start the fight.

Proverbs 17:14 provides both a warning and a solution. Warning: Starting fights releases a flood—ever-increasing irritation, sarcasm, and insults, which soon overwhelm our emotional landscape. Solution: Stop. Just don’t do it. Each of us has the power to bite your tongue and prevent that dispute from ever breaching the dam.

The key is the aforementioned Holy Spirit in our lives. As Christians, we are temples of God’s Spirit, who is always present to guide us. When we allow Him free rein, He produces His “fruit” in our lives—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control, among them (Galatians 5:22-23).

So let the Spirit lead. Stop that dispute before it starts. Bite your tongue.

Prayer: Lord God, give me the wisdom and the will to avoid foolish conflict.

Greetings in the Lord,
Through the tongue, one knows what is in the heart; if one has been born again, we know, for the Holy Spirit and the other Comforter, the Spirit of truth, leads us in all wisdom and understanding.
Jesus spoke to the unclean spirit's; rebuking it and casting it out, even telling them go into the pigs. His compassion on the unclean spirit got Him at odds with the whole village. They were scared of Him. However, a sinner was healed of the unclean spirit.
Not once did He "bite His tongue"; until the high priest and elders, the captain of the temple apprehended Him; then He remained silent. He knew His time had come.
We are to reprove, reproach, rebuke....them, in His name.
Best to respect God, not one's personal sensitivities.
Those who are born of God will have affliction, persecution, conflicts by the spirit of lawlessness. But we are not taught to "bite our tongue."
The flood works both ways.
A bully is a bully, and if not addressed properly, the bully gets worse. Speak to the unclean spirit; fear not, God is with you.
Now, be Christ like...put on His armor, and use it.
You have been clothed in Majesty by the King; not to be a footstool under the feet of the lawless.

All praise glory and honor be unto God. Amen

Dear Brother/Sister (?) watertolive,
Not every dispute is caused by an unclean spirit in a person. The sinful nature of man is not an unclean spirit within us and being sealed with the Holy Spirit started the process of sanctification which continues on, even while we currently live in this corrupted flesh. I am sure you know the expression "bite your tongue" which shows that somethings are better left unsaid. Not everyone has the discernment to know, so if in doubt, it is at times better left unsaid. As you will find, and have found, that even believers, those you have communicated with here on Talk Jesus had words that were better left unsaid. Which this devotional might have been beneficial for some such as those. :)

I would also ask another question, but will wait, for I am sure you will respond to what I have just written to you. :)

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

Greetings in the Lord,
Luke 19:37-40

The (old sect) has been trying to silence the Holy Spirit for along time. Well, we know the uproars they create.
Pure envy and jealousy against the Holy Spirit, by the (old sect) screaming "crucify Him!", and they put Him to death.
We also know they would not yield to good instruction; it continues to this day. Sigh...

The very words we speak forth, should praise, honor and glorify God. He is the all seeing, all hearing, all knowing God. He is watching, He is listening...
if (some) put God first, they would know this and would not dare try throw mud on His kids, speaking forth with a serpent tongue.
They do not know, what I know. They have no fear of God; this, alone, tells us they have not His wisdom, nor His understanding.
I pray they be very careful, least they condemn themselves, and fall down dead, Sigh...
WE should not tempt the Lord our God.

All praise glory and honor be unto God. Amen

2 Peter 1:5-11

Sadly, not everyone is as capable as some and so it takes time to get where we all want to be in Christ Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Greetings in the Lord
Yes sir, I agree.
I believe it is very important to speak to the unclean spirit, rather than let those spirits attached themselves to us. And by all means pray salvation for them. For God is our vengeance, he will recompense. Lord have mercy.

Someone who has never gone through anything for His name sake, how can He move us from glory to glory, and glory to holiness?

Some have left out, or watch from afar, because they have been jumped on by foul spirits. When we see (hear) this happening and do nothing, we are just as guilty as the one doing it. Perhaps the good Samaritan comes to mind.
That's a baby lamb being eaten up by a wolf. Do we not love them, as He loves us?

This forum allows the wolf to stay in the lamb field, it should be a safe place for the babes to grow and seek God, not be bashed by foul spirits.
However these things should not be.
If the eye or hand offend thee, pluck it out, cut it off; for it is better to lose one member, rather than the whole herd.
Jesus spoke this parable pertaining to the members in the church.

The obligation to the brotherhood is another one that the church has laid down on.
These things should not be

Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.
This lets a blood bought, Holy Ghost taught, believer... know who those spirits really are.

As always, be blessed, stay blessed.
All praise glory and honor be unto God. Amen

Greetings in the Lord my brother
I went off grid for about several yrs, after my mother passed, the community burned my house, my son in prison, and then another inmate took his life.
Yes, I counted the cost then.
Do you know our brother Job? Man, I do, and I'm positive you do too, but hopefully only by the lines on the page.
I lived in a tent in the Cherokee National Forest in TN, yes, year round. God was carrying me through it all. Very humbling.
My Lord has taught me so, so much.
I give Him praise and glory for it all.

I was happy and so blessed when I seen my brothers and sisters still here. Glory to God!

All praise glory and honor be unto God. Amen
I still want my old account back.

Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.
Proverbs 10:19

Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Psalm 141:3

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer
Psalm 19:14

Ye shall know them by their fruits.

Dear Sister,
Sometimes the old is better left exactly there and that is in the past. Oh, the words, experiences, reverberate in our soul, trembling our spirit of things gone by, but it is onward we march, forward to the Land of Glory whose gates we will enter as He wills for each one of us who believes in Him the Most High! \o/

Though in truth you have been a story of testimony to others for me over the years. As the spirit has moved those memories to the forefront of remembrance to enlighten/warn others, that His words are love words, but words of action and not just the sounds of a gong reverberating and numbing those within the sanctuary of churches throughout the world these days. Sadly, too often self-absorption gets in the way of so many other possibilities in sharing His loving care in these ever-darkening days.

Yet testimonies continue to abound in the Body of Christ that Raise a Hallelujah to His Glory Forever More!
And you are one of them dear sister!!! Alleluia!

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

Greetings my brother
Glory be to God, yes, glory, praise and honor to the King. Amen
Thank you for such kind words.
Yes, yesterday is gone, I only look to today, for tomorrow is not promised.
It has been quite the journey.
I encountered bear, big cats, raccoons, chipmunks and copperheads, and some two legged creatures as well...and rested peacefully every night in my Lord's arms. Complete solitude.
Now, back in the world, I watch it's hustle. People being tossed to and fro; and their speech....Lord have mercy. Yet I remember the days that was my life, as well.

When thine eye is single, the whole body is filled with light.
Yet, not my own, but He that set up camp, pitched a tent, and built a fire, within me, engrafting His Word upon the tables of my heart. Praise God for it.

Thank you my dear brother, for stirring the spirit in me, as well.
For you are, indeed, a messenger of God.
All praise glory and honor be unto God. Amen
