i play the drums for a youth worship band, and every year we have been blessed to be able to play in a small town in louisiana for a youth group's D-now(Desciple Now). None of the kids are over the age of 16, and they are all amazing^^. They all have a unique passion for God and it's really inspiring^^. They aren't, i guess, the "typical" looking church goers^^. they prefer baggy pants and harder Christian rock^^(as do myself..lol). i keep in touch with them on the internet, and i talked to one of them on Friday, and my heart broke. appearantly their pastor banned them from wearing black from sunday worship AND their youth on wednesday nights. where they used to have 30-40 kids coming, now there is only about 20 or less. the youth pastor(an AWESOME guy) doesn't worry bout numbers at all, he's just heart broken that the Church did that. So many kids are going to be pushed away because of it. the ones i talked too told me they weren't going to stop going just because of that, my friend said "I love God way too much to not go"^^.

so yeah..just wondering what some of your thoughts were on that.

Please do not be discouraged. It may seem a pity that due to recent events some youth have dropped off from their attendance. But when we serve Jesus in any way.....we continue to serve Him. I feel that you should not be discouraged but continue to do what you do, and do it well.

As you do this you will be a blessing, and numbers will increase.

God Bless You

Well...to be honest, I am disappointed in that pastor. Because wearing black does not hurt anyone. He is basing his judgements on outward appearances.
I am guessing that members of that particular church pressured the pastor to make that decision.

I pray that God will keep the youth group growing and stable in spite of this rule. Jesus is so much bigger and greater than a rule limiting colors of wear....all the youth members will overcome by the blood of the Lamb. I feel certain God has his hand in this, and that no matter what happens, young people and adults will grow in His grace and fellowship.

I think we have to pick our "wars" very carefully.
Even though in my heart, I don't see a true problem with the wearing of black, isn't it written to obey those in authority over us because God put them there? The Pastor may not have chosen well or may have done exactly what God wishes, to teach the youth to "go for the light and not bring in darkness or conform to the world". On the otherhand is it really that important for the youth to make a stand for the wearing of black?
What counts is truly internal.

Are we humbly submitting to God's authority?
If we are then that means we'll do things that we wouldn't have chose to do on our own and will not do things that we would rather have done for self preservation or exaltation.

Don't give me wrong sometimes wearing something in church can be distracting for example it maybe something with gothic I see satanic type person stuff if its black that maybe distracting to some people but if it a nice black or plain nice clothes thats alright because some are can be but not just black but any kind of wears that it don't matter if its balck or not I no my church is all young because when you come in all you see young ghetto people in the church there are time where young women would wear very very short jean pants in the summmer in that fact but that is close to see there hold leg and it was not good for people who has lust problems who is trying to make it out.

So your pastor maybe doing that because he might trying to keep the hold distracting because the grown people in church may had complain about it so if that so I don't what i can really say about but that i can't judge that at all

I think Jesus was very clear that God cares about what is in our hearts, and not the outward manifestations of class, and I see the ideas against wearing black clothing as a reaction against what some perceive as a class of people not traditionally seen in church, and taking from that the idea that they shouldnt be in church - I think thats the wrong approach. We have to welcome everyone, especially the non-traditional ones.

Amen cogito We need to dress and look good but God looks at the heart. Man looks at the outward appearance. Jesus welcomed all.

God bless you.

How unfortunate for the kids that are more interested in what they wear than growing in the faith. But bravo for the ones that still come....shows where their priorities are.

Wearing black in and of itself isn't bad. But if someone wears clothing that is identifies them with an immoral element of our culture, I don't blame the pastor for asking them to refrain from wearing it. He's probably just trying to lead his flock the way he believes is best.

There's a church in my town that has "Biker Church" every Sunday night. Black is by far the predominant color there and God seems to not care!

Pray that God will keep that pastor growing. If the pastor isn't growing, nothing in tht church will prosper!

What I think is that we must pray and lead every lost soul to Christ with any music and any means....lets make Christ for the world ... the following sentence is for you if you like rock....check out the new album of Disciple - " Scars Remain " its a very good one....God Bless You

"appearantly their pastor banned them from wearing black from sunday worship AND their youth on wednesday nights"

How utterly disgusting. Perhaps these kids should show up to service in black and interrupt the sermon for the sake of asking this pastor what Scripture he can show that proves his decision is righteous and not judgmentally foolish. I cannot believe he did this and said those things.

I suggest having a group of people praying for this pastor as his judgment is obviously not worthy to serve for GOD like this, as far as I can tell anyway.

Wow.

That's unfortunate. But as the pastor is the head of that church his wishes should be respected. The Bible teaches us to submit to those in authority.
And while I don't understand fully his aversion to black, his does not seem to be an unreasonable request.

Being a man with deep Louisiana roots I can say that most churches there are very conservative. They may associate black with satanism or wicca, even if your friends' shirts have nothing to do with those things. They may also object to the choice of hard rock. I know when I was a kid, the little bayou church I attended just outside New Iberia wouldn't have allowed a rock band anywhere near the church. Lol.

My advice to your friends is to be Christian about it.
Wear another color, do not be confrontational, and remember to be respectful and courteous to your elders. I'm sure the pastor isn't trying to be mean spirited. He may just be an older person from a different generation with different views. No big deal. One day, maybe one of your friends will be in his shoes and then they can make policy on shirt color. XD.

I am very saddened and disgusted by the pastor's action (especially being myself a Jesus loving Christian who wears black clothes almost every day and listens to rock music). God created us as individuals and with freedom to be ourselves and I believe we are free to express ourselves genuinely, and that goes also for the way of dressing (as long as it is decent, I would add, especially in the church).

Colours themselves don't have any objective meaning, and I can not unerstand how someone can consider the colour black "evil". I myself wear it because I consider it beatiful and profound, but in no way this indicates that it makes me somehow morally worse than if I didn't wear it - that's just nonsense.

Notices people that wears black almost everyday that sometimes they have a dark spirit because my pastor told me that and i notices this girl in my school that she wears black almost everyday and I told her that she has a darlk spirit by wearing black like almost everyday but she agree that she dose have a dark spirit but she said she worship satan and stuff:embarasse
