"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5

My Holman Standard says, "Blessed are the gentle, because they will inherit the earth."

I've been having trouble with this scripture about being meek. In the past, when I was meek, people walked all over me. So I've been asking God to reveal to me how to be meek in a scriptural sense, in His way, not my way.

Meek---to have dignity in oneself without becoming demeaned. Keeping oneself's mind in accordance with what Jesus says about me. To accept criticism graciously, so that if the criticism is unfair or too harsh, the criticism falls back upon the criticizer.

I recall that it is said of Moses that he was the 'meekest' man upon the earth. There is a difference between meekness and weakness. The two are not the same. As you say meekness = gentleness, weakness = a state or quality of being weak, entirely different from meekness.

Moses as the "meekest" man was no soft cookie. He passed judgement upon the nation of Israel for many years. He was able to do this great task because of, ........ his meekness, because of his gentleness, which enabled him to be give good and impartial decisions.

We do not want to be weak, certainly not, in today's world folks will ride over you. But I certainly want to be meek, as you point out Jesus commended it.
