Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has heard of loosing weight from eating berries (along with regular food)? I've recently lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks and the only thing I can figure is 1). God is doing the work in me, and 2). eating blueberries and other berries as I pick has also helped. Is #2 a silly notion?

My sister said something about blueberries being a "super food" today. Not heard of that before. I am exercising as normal with not a lot of increase in exercise. Also I am glad for the weight loss so no worries there! ;)

Just wondering...

Thank you!

I know that blueberries are good for us and started having them in jam and sometimes fresh when the price is right. I also buy fruit juice with blueberries in them.

Here is some information I found on line.

Blueberry Health

This is just a small part from the website.

Scientists have discovered many health benefits from eating blueberries. They are one of the richest sources of antioxidants of the fruits and vegetables that have been studied. Antioxidants are responsible in part for keeping us healthily and young. They help fight cell damaging "free radicals". Free radicals are unstable substances that our bodies produce as we get older. They damage human cells and our DNA. US scientists have shown that the antioxidants contained in Blueberries help to slow th ageing process and reduce the risk of cancer.

The antioxidants are contained in "Anthocyanins" (Greek word meaning "plant" and "blue") these are the reason why Blueberries are Blue ! They are responsible for the Blue colour of the fruit. Strawberries and Spinach also contain high levels of antioxidants.

Chemical studies in the US by the Agricultural Research Service have very recently revealed that Blueberries (as well as strawberries and raspberries) contain chemicals that decreased the growth of cervical and breast cancer cells by a considerable percentage.

Blueberries have also found to contain resveratrol, another potential anti-cancer agent.

Blueberries have also shown to not only halt the ageing process but actually reverse it ! Experiments have also indicated that eating Blueberries improves short term memory loss and improves balance and co-ordination.

Also found this by doing a search for blueberries and weight loss.

Let's talk about superfoods.

In case you were wondering, I define superfoods as foods that have so many healing and healthy properties that just adding them to your diet on a regular basis gives you major protective dosages of all kinds of disease-fighting compounds. These foods are so loaded with antioxidant and phytochemical power that they really deserve the name "superfood." And I'm telling you that you can get significant health benefits by just adding these ordinary supermarket foods to whatever else you're eating.

And every one of these foods can be used as part of a weight loss program.

At the top of the list is blueberries.

Blueberries have been found to have one of the highest ORAC values of any food in the world. What does that mean? Well ORAC is a rating system for antioxidant power. Scientists look at how all the different phytochemicals and antioxidants in a given food perform together and then give an overall rating to the food based on its performance. Think of a sports team. A championship team doesn't win a championship just because it has good players. It becomes outstanding because of how well they work together as a group. The best teams are more than just the sum of their individual players. Well, it's the same thing with antioxidants. The ORAC rating looks at how well the antioxidants in a given food work together and how much protection and value they give you when taken as a group in that particular food. And one of the highest scorers of all time is blueberries. Blueberries are low in sugar. They're high in fiber. And research is constantly revealing their almost magical healing properties.

Hi,

well, I don't want to be a pest, but all good bears know that in order to put on lots of weight before hibernation, they have to eat as many berries as possible!

Yummy !!!

Bless you ....><>

Br. Bear

ps... just because I am not really a pest (all the time) I will say that yes, eating plenty of fresh berries and indeed all fruit, is excellent for keeping healthy. Blueberries are one of many that, if consumed in quantity over a period of time, will help in wieght reduction... provided other things are put aside for the while.... or at least cut right back on. Grapes are another way to clean out the system. Please be careful to not overdo any fruit if it has been spayed as part of packaging and storing (you know, those poisonous chemical sprays that get used sometimes) and if you are into browsing the wild berries, like me, be careful as to whether poisonous spays have been applied.... this is true for berries considered weeds.
There are a lot of good books and, as ladylovesJesus has shared, websites, that will give you an idea about how to go about any major fruit and/or berry cleanse or program... and how to prepare for it, as well as get off it again... unless you intend to just sleep it off over winter!

The Lord gave us bodies that function best with the food He also gave us ... so yes, give thanks to the Lord for what He is doing in your life... and trust Him, berries or not.

Thank you one and all for your replies and helpful info. I'm blessed to be living in an area where blueberries grow wild (including in my yard). So no spray anything in my yard - I don't even fertilize except for my compost mix but the blueberry plant didn't get any of that... maybe next year!

Praise the Lord! Thank you Lord for your many blessings upon blessings!

Thanks for extra research, too. Blueberries are starting to fade and now the raspberries (my neighbor told me to get picking so none would be wasted - there are so many they are just falling to the ground) are in so I'm eating and freezing these berries. God's bountiful blessings!

Thank you again one and all! :) - one more thing... where is the spell check for me to check this message? I am not a good speller & like to double check normally... Thank you.
