I have failed repeatedly over the past 5-7 years of trying to get in shape. In high school I was in good shape. I am 5"11 and a good weight for me is 190 pounds like I was in high school. After high school, I was no longer in organized sports and started putting on weight. I over the years became addicted to food and would say that I still am though it is not as bad as it use to be a few years ago.

Yesterday, God made it clear to me that I can NOT lose the fat without him. It just won't happen. I can't tell you how many times I have picked up a gym membership, worked my butt off and ate chicken salads. I have multiple times lost 20 pounds in a month, but I never last past 4-5 weeks and then gain it all back. I can't even pinpoint why I quit. My best bet is that my willpower runs out. Well, again, it is now clear to me that I can no longer operate my life around willpower for any, and I mean anything.

So, I know that God has charged me to be a good steward to this body. I know that involves eating right and exercising faithfully. I have spent time over the years researching all the types of exercise and the physiology of the body along with nutrition. I know what exercises to do and what foods to eat.

The question is strength. I can NOT do it on my own. I have to rely on God, but I don't feel like I really understand how to give it up to Him after so many years exerting every last piece that I have into the effort. I want to give Him complete control in this area of my life, both food and exercise.

Does anyone here have experience in this area with the Lord? Any wisdom that you all could shed would be valued.

In Him,
Turbo

I think Chad will be the best advisor on that, he seems to know so much about exercise and diets.

However, I think there are a few basics you must do,
No fried food, no junk food, no sugar and lots of water, you don't have to go to the gym everyday, just make sure you exercise at least once a week.

I lost alot of weight after I asked God to help because I hated how I looked, once you start praying about it, you'll find yourself applying all diet rules or so, it'll be easier, just don't stop praying about it.

It's a whole new lifestyle.

Yea, I'm doing a lower carb diet to keep my insulin levels down throughout the day. I have found that I have been sleeping better and overall feel better throughout my day.

Knowledge of what food to eat and what exercise to do isn't really a problem. Mine is just surrendering this area of my life and not trying to do it by my own willpower/strength.

I want to do it, I just can't see where I am holding on where I shouldn't be.
