I was given the privilage to review Mark Hall's new book Your Own Jesus for Zondervon Publishing. It will be released later this month. It is definately a "must read"
Your Own Jesus
by Mark Hall
Review by Brenda Brumby-Girtman
I have just finished reading Your own Jesus by Mark Hall, lead singer of the award winning contemporary Christian group Casting Crowns. I can barely see to type this for tears keep welling up in my eyes. This book really struck a cord with me.
In addition to being husband, father, student pastor, and the "casting crowns guy", Mark Hall is an excellent story teller. I could almost see the razor sharp teeth of the world's largest rat and feel the anticipation of the plunge of an awesome roller coaster.
Mark Hall incorporates stories from his life and the lives of friends to convey the necessity of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Utilizing scripture and spiritual insight, he challenges the reader to pursue their own Jesus because the faith of one's pastor, mother, father or friend will not suffice.
Each chapter is titled after one of Mark's songs. Detailing the heart of each, they are an encouragement to overcome compromise and to follow through faithfully. He challenges the reader to honestly answer hard questions like "What about you? Have you given up? Have you left a friend for dead, spiritually speaking?" (That is the one that really got to me).
This book encourages one to overcome fear and compromise and gives hope and practical steps to obedience.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone that has become complacent in their walk with God and to everyone seeking to know Jesus because He is God and insists on making it personal.
