Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter. Proverbs 6:6-8 NLT
This is scripture’s famed passage on laziness. But it also offers encouragement for those times we feel lost and confused.
How big can an ant’s brain be? And yet the little guy knows exactly what to do, when. God has made the ant wise enough to work hard now to prepare for his future time of need. Our lives are certainly more complicated than an ant’s, but we also have vastly more brainpower…and a direct connection to our Creator, who made us in His own image.
When we’re struggling, we can ask Him for wisdom (James 1:5). Jesus Himself has taught us to ask His Father for “our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). We know that God cares for the birds and that we as human beings are much more valuable to Him (Matthew 6:26; Luke 12:24).
So, if you’re lazybones, take a lesson from the ants. And if you ever feel overwhelmed by life, do the same. Those ti9ny creatures do what God created them to do, and they succeed. So can we. It’s all a matter of prayer and obedience.
Prayer: Lord God, thank You for giving me a strong mind—may I always direct it toward Your ultimate wisdom.
