Breastplate of Righteousness
This week let's take a look at the Breastplate of Righteousness. Now don't go and mix salvation up with religion. It's not YOUR righteousness that you wear as a breastplate. This isn't talking about something you do, but rather something you put on. It is HIS righteousness, and it is put on in faith. Romans 3 says, "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace." And later in chapter 10 Paul declares, "Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes... for it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
Think about that for a moment - we trade our sinfulness for His Righteousness, and in the process we become the very Righteousness of God! Wow, what a miraculous work of transformation! Only God could do something like this. And, just in case you stumble along the way, God promises in First John 1 that, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Who wouldn't want to wear this as a breastplate guarding their very heart? How awesome is our God and how deep is his love for us. May we truly walk in a manner worthy of our calling. God be with you all...
