A psalm of David, regarding his experience in the cave. A prayer. I cry out to the LORD; I plead for the LORD's mercy. I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me. Psalm 142:1-3 NLT
David had plenty to be gravely concerned about when he wrote Psalm 142. He was holed up in a cave in a place called Adullam, hiding from the persecution of King Saul. From there, he brought his worries and concerns to the Lord.
Though David wrote in the above scripture passage, “I pour out my complaints before [the Lord],” he wasn’t complaining against God about his present situation but bringing his troubles and concerns to the one he knew could and would calm his heart and mind and bring him relief.
When David brought his problems to the Lord, he set an example we should all follow, and example well summarized by the apostle Paul: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philip0pians 4:6).
Boldly take your problems, big and small, to your heavenly Father. He wants to hear from you!
Prayer: Gracious Lord, may I never forget that You want me to bring my worries, complaints, and concerns to You. You know what I’m dealing with, but You want me to talk to You about it and not hold anything back from You.
