Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, Whose glorious beauty [is] a fading flower Which [is] at the head of the verdant valleys, To those who are overcome with wine! Isaiah 28:1 NKJV
It surprises many Christian men to hear this, but nowhere in the Bible is the consumption of alcoholic beverages forbidden. In fact, our Lord Jesus drank wine (see Matthew 11:19, Luke 7:34).
God doesn’t have a problem with His people drinking in moderation. Drunkenness, though, is a completely different natter. God repeatedly condemns drunkenness in His written Word. In today’s verse, He addresses drunkenness among the people of the northern kingdom of Israel (Ephraim).

- Wine [is] a mocker, Strong drink [is] a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise. Proverbs 20:1 NKJV
- Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. Romans 13:13 NKJV
- Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 5:18 NLT
- Drunkenness moves our hearts away from God and can ruin our professional lives, our families, our health, and our testimony for Jesus. For those reasons, we would do well to heed the Bible’s prohibitions against drunkenness.
