Here's why I believe that I can't be forgiven. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is believing that the Holy Spirit is a demonic spirit. I think that I first started having these thoughts when I was a kid at 14 after hearing about the unforgivable sin. Then I actually believed one of the thoughts about when the pharisees said that Jesus had an demonic spirit but as I said, I tried to fight back and cancel it. At first, it was doubts of Jesus divinity but then it messed me up. I feel like it's too late. I prayed to God but he didn't answer. I am stuck in dead religion with no repentance and a heart change and I feel like my heart is so hardened against God's mercy and forgiveness. Any advice?
First off, let us address the unforgiveable sin that the Holy Spirit will convict any one of.
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come,
he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
So the unforgiveable sin is not believing in Jesus Christ.
So now we have to go to your reference in question.
Matthew 12:22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
Jesus said "Wherefore" at the beginning of verse 31 because of verse 30 in defining the actions and words of those seeking to scatter believers away from Him in spite of the miracles by saying He has a demon.
So the unforgiveable sin is the unbelieving among the Pharisees wishing to scatter potential believers away from Jesus for the miracles that were happening by Him.
That sin of not believing in Jesus Christ is the sin the Holy Spirit will convict an unbeliever of.
However, that sin is only unforgiven if the Pharisees and the sinner remain as unbelievers. If they repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ & that God has raised Him from the dead, then they are saved for His words to be true below.
John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Believe Him that all that the Father has given Him that believe in Him, He shall lose nothing which is the Father's will.
So the devil may put evil thoughts in your head, but all you need to do is say I believe in Jesus Christ & therefore I am saved and trust the Lord to help you think on good things as well as rest in your hope in Him for all things.
A Christian girl had posted at one time, not sure if it was this forum or not, that she had sinned against the Holy Ghost in the manner you described before she was saved and worried that she could not be saved. I pointed out to her that if she really did commit the unpardonable sin, why would God the Father bother to draw her unto the Son to reveal His Son to her so she can believe in Him if she really did commit the unpardonable sin to not be saved? So she is saved.
John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Matthew 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
And so are you when you had first believed in the Lord Jesus Christ & that God has raised Him from the dead and therefore you are saved and have been saved ever since.
Believe Him and His words to you. If you still have doubts, ask Him for help to believe Him & His words to you as this father did for his son to be delivered from his demons & He will help you cast down wicked thoughts daily if need be.
Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
Hebrews 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
