As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!" Acts 1:10-11 NLT
You need signposts to direct you and encourage you when you’re uncertain. Jesus told His disciples that He would rise from the dead. They were uncertain because that wasn’t typical. Mary Magdalene thought the body of Jesus was stolen. Jesus talked to her that morning, but she didn’t recognize Him at first because it couldn’t be possible—she had seen Him die. The disciples watched Jesus ascend to heaven. They were also uncertain because no one had seen that happen before.
The signpost for these instances was that Jesus is coming back. They each had a story of the unbelievable coming true. But they also had a basis for certainty, and that was the promises from Jesus’ own mouth.
Father’s Day can be a time of certainty. If your father gave you reason to trust him, then it’s easy to remember this day fondly. But even if that wasn’t your experience, you still have every reason to be certain about the love of a heavenly Father who always keeps His promises, including the promise of Jesus’ return.
Prayer: Lord, help me be certain when it comes to You fulfilling all Your promises.
