Consumers Digest recently placed Children International on its list of leading charities. Nonprofits earn the distinction for using contributions efficiently and utilizing cost-effective fundraising techniques. About 80 percent of Children International’s income in 2003 was used directly for humanitarian programs.
“Accountability is part of the culture at Children International. Our principles have always been and will continue to be about being effective and efficient with every contribution," explained David Houchen, senior vice president and chief financial officer. "I want people to know that we spend their contributions very effectively. When we tell a contributor how we will spend their money, that's exactly how we spend it.
