The following is a letter released to the members of Legacy Church of Christ in North Richland Hills, Texas. As of this moment, the story is getting very little press, and because the doctor in question is a British citizen, there isn't that much America will do. I was simply going to post this news under prayer requests, but since it is an international situation, I thought I would post it here more publicly instead. I would ask any talkjesus members who are local to Britain to please write letters to anyone you deem appropriate to expedite the doctor's release.

I regret to tell you that Dr. Whittaker was kidnapped last night around 11:00pm. A car with multiple kidnappers came on to the compound. Shots were fired. The Whittaker’s night watchman was hit twice but it seems not to be deadly to him. Bob was shot in the arm and was taken away. Annette got some tile fragments in her leg from a piece of floor tile that shattered........I have talked to her and she and Ozioma are ok except for Bob’s situation. Annette and I have discussed using Dr. Zik as an intermediary but at last contact she had not yet been able to reach him.
My team of nine arrived in Germany yesterday and are leaving for the US tomorrow. We had a good trip to Palmer Hospital and are all fine and healthy.
Dr. Camazine and two young women from Texas are still in Nigeria. Rosann is trying to get the girls out of Nigeria ASAP. It appears Brian may be choosing to stay for now. We saw Dr. Camazine at NCH when we were there Thursday.
I finally got through to the British Consulate this morning in Germany and they were going to relay the news to the British Embassy in Nigeria. Annette and others had been unable to get through to the British Embassy directly.
A three or four person team led by Dr. Umezurike is leading the negotiations and strategy formulation for Bob’s release. I talked to Dr. Umez a few minutes ago and they are dealing with three issues presently.
1) Negotiating for Bob's release.
2) What to do about Brian Camazine who remains there. The two young women who were with him have now left for the airport. Rosann Alexander has made arrangements with the airline for their early exit.......so we are down to Brian and the Whittaker family.
3) To make sure the Whittaker’s night watchman who was shot twice is getting good care.

By the way, the kidnappers first demand was for N10,000,000. or roughly $65,000. Kidnappers in Nigeria negotiate for hostage release like they do for everything else so there will undoubtedly be much give and take. Also, what they (our negotiators) end up giving has lots of implications for the future.
