I'm not going to comment, this is an incredibly contentious topic but I am curious to read what others have to say. And let's remember that this is a Christian forum and that we're all image bearers. That's something I sometimes forget when I vehemently disagree with someone's point of view. I will strive to do as Jesus taught, to treat others as I wish to be treated, with kindness love and respect.

My easy answer, everyone has their perspective but ultimately it is God who will judge all and judge everything.

We need to keep praying for all leaders. It's spiritual warfare more than political agendas.

Amen brother....I'm in Canada and I pray for our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as well as all political leaders, whether in the US or Canada or anywhere else in the world.

I do believe we have free will of course, for example I don't think it was God's will that Joseph's brothers were to sell him into slavery. But God can take evil and use it for good as was seen when Joseph saved his family. So even if we elect politicians who are not interested in doing God's will (like Joseph's brothers) He will still fulfill His promise.

I am dismayed at how many prominent evangelical leaders are willing to overlook Trump's failings because of their political agenda.

I welcome the Christianity Today editorial. They rightly called out Bill Clinton, and I believe they are right to do the same with the current President.

I consider Bill Clinton and Donald Trump to be birds of a feather in many respects....one cannot forget that Donald invited the Clintons to his most recent wedding. What I find surprising is that anyone who calls out Donald Trump on any of his failings is automatically called a left wing liberal.

Since when did Donald Trump become the epitome of all things Conservative and Right Wing??? You can still be right wing and Conservative without having to support Trump in my opinion.

Christianity Today, is what it is, a magazine that like many "opinion shaping" magazines, are only as good as the editors and the ones that pick the stories. I have no idea if there are "any spirit led" christians even working there. Possibly, but judging them is just as bad as judging Trump.

Thanks for sharing @StrugglingInCanada
In reviewing this opinion article on the impeachment of President Trump I have these few words to say.

Unless His name is Jesus, no President has ever been worthy by word or deed to fill a position of authority against the standards we seek to live by as Christians. Yet, we will continue to try. I can go back to Kennedy to today's President Trump and find fault in words or deeds for all of them! Does this mean that they all should have been impeached? I'm a Christian as this Editor I'm sure says as well, but what this Editor from CT seeks to find in what is a God given authority are the standards that only Jesus can uphold. So, without letting this actually play out as all things in this world will. This CT Editor has decided, through the claim of impartiality, to throw themselves into the fray of politics.

As our Brother Chad has said "We need to keep praying for all leaders. It's spiritual warfare more than political agendas."

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

I completely disagree with Christianity Today.
"Unsavory dealings and immoral acts by the President and those close to him have rendered this administration morally unable to lead."

It's quite a detailed statement. Which bits do you object to?

That article is pretty inaccurate if you ask me. This impeachment thing is bogus, I've read the Ukraine phone call transcript which is available to the public and I encourage everyone to read. I didn't see any language in it that was in any way threatening in fact from the looks of it a friendly and cordial conversation, yes he did suggest that he would like Ukraine to investigate the Bidens and President Zelensky obliged. Military aid to Ukraine was never withheld.

Ukraine’s Zelensky again denies quid pro quo during Trump phone call

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied once again that President Trump used nearly $400 million in military aid as a bargaining chip to pressure him to launch investigations into former Vice President Joe Biden and Ukraine’s role in the 2016 US election.

“I did not speak with US President Trump in those terms: you give me this, I give you that,” Zelensky told German magazine Der Spiegel in an interview published Monday.

The military aid, which was approved by Congress in January and eventually released on Sept. 11, supports Ukraine’s fight against Russian-backed separatists in the eastern part of the country.

Zelensky, in an interview in October, said he was unaware that the military aid was suspended when he spoke to Trump in July.

“There was no blackmail. I had no idea the military aid was held up,” he said at a news conference."

I'm a Canadian, so in a sense I don't have any say in things....however as in the United States, Trump has ardent supporters here as well as equally ardent detractors....even the Premier of Ontario (like the governor of a state) is a fan of DJT.

What I've noticed both here and on visits to the United States, is a very tangible link that some Evangelicals feel exists between the Christian faith and support for President Trump, as if supporting this POTUS is the Chrisitian thing to do. For my own part I think one can be either a supporter or a detractor of Trump and still be a follower of Jesus Christ. Sadly politics has become so polarized that those who lean either left or right, they too often regard those of the opposite view as enemies that are evil and must be defeated at all costs...as opposed to good people with different opinions, priorities and views.

Those without the Holy Spirit to guide them will turn whichever way the wind blows.

One might infer from what you've said that everyone who says they're guided in their view by the Holy Spirit, that they must have the correct view. What of two people, with two different views, both avowing that their POV is Spirit led?

Obviously one is not being led by the Holy Spirit and is lying about it. Many christians think being a christian, finding things in scripture, that might support them somewhat are "being led by the Spirit". It is not the same thing. Being led by the Holy Spirit was the gift Christ gave us for all situations where the word alone doesnt cover the subject completely. Holy Scriptures "point" is to let us realize when lying spirits are trying to deceive us, but if scripture which was purposed to cover most situations, doesnt cover some situation, LISTEN to the Spirit. In the end, its up to us to follow the path set before us with ALL the help God gave us, not just scripture, not just spiritual leading(some spirits lie).
