Who will and does 'make up' the Body and Bride of Christ?
This is asking about if it be men or women, or both.

What does the Scripture tell us?

Please keep answers reasonably short and, where possible, provide definite Scripture to back your reply.

and please, post in peace

Eph 4:1; Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,
Eph 4:2; with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love,
Eph 4:3; being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Eph 4:4; There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;
Eph 4:5; one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Eph 4:6; one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.
Eph 4:7; But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift.
Eph 4:8; Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN."
Eph 4:9; (Now this expression, "He ascended," what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth?
Eph 4:10; He who descended is Himself also He who ascended far above all the heavens, so that He might fill all things.)
Eph 4:11; And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers,
Eph 4:12; for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;
Eph 4:13; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.
Eph 4:14; As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
Eph 4:15; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
Eph 4:16; from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

The global collection of Saints.

Rom 12:3; For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.
Rom 12:4; For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function,
Rom 12:5; so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.
Rom 12:6; Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith;
Rom 12:7; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching;
Rom 12:8; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Again, the global collection of Saints...

1Cor 10:16; Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?
1Cor 10:17; Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.
1Cor 10:18; Look at the nation Israel; are not those who eat the sacrifices sharers in the altar?
1Cor 10:19; What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
1Cor 10:20; No, but I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become sharers in demons.
1Cor 10:21; You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons
.

I believe in this passage... verse 16 is talking about the 'body of Christ' in the context of sacrifice. His body which was broken for us.
But verse 17 moves this to global communion ( Eucharist ) of the ( church ) body again.
There is a warning here about sharing communion with unbelievers and those who follow the doctrines of demons.
Not everyone is a member of "the body".

1Cor 12:12; For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.
1Cor 12:13; For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.
1Cor 12:14; For the body is not one member, but many.
1Cor 12:15; If the foot says, "Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.
1Cor 12:16; And if the ear says, "Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body.
1Cor 12:17; If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?
1Cor 12:18; But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired.
1Cor 12:19; If they were all one member, where would the body be?
1Cor 12:20; But now there are many members, but one body.
1Cor 12:21; And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; or again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."
1Cor 12:22; On the contrary, it is much truer that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;
1Cor 12:23; and those members of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable,
1Cor 12:24; whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked,
1Cor 12:25; so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.
1Cor 12:26; And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
1Cor 12:27; Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it.
1Cor 12:28; And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues.
1Cor 12:29; All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they?
1Cor 12:30; All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they?
1Cor 12:31; But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.

This is my personal favorite passage about the body. The body is made up of many members, and they all have different purposes and gifts.
God planned it this way on purpose. Somehow over the centuries, the body has become divided, but I don't believe this was ever God's plan.

Verses 25-27 are especially relevant here. We should love and care for one another. But we would rather fight and argue these days, and point out what's wrong with your denomination.
When someone is suffering, we should all suffer together. When someone is rejoicing, we should all rejoice together. But we would rather separate ourselves from those who aren't exactly like us.
God made us different for a reason, for a specific purpose.

.. but as I said in the previous posts... the church is the body. The corporate church. Verse 19 above says one person standing alone is not the body. The body is a collection of "MANY" members.

It seems that for the most part.. in the old covenant. Gentiles were mostly excluded, and God told the Jews not to mingle with them too much.
But this passage says that Jesus's sacrifice broke down the dividing wall between the Gentiles and the Jews, and God views us all equally.

Eph 2:11; Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called "Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," which is performed in the flesh by human hands—
Eph 2:12; remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
Eph 2:13; But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14; For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,
Eph 2:15; by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,
Eph 2:16; and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.
Eph 2:17; AND HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR;
Eph 2:18; for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.
Eph 2:19; So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household,
Eph 2:20; having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,
Eph 2:21; in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord,
Eph 2:22; in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit
.

Some people take verse 15 above, and take it to mean God got rid of all the commandments. But in the context of this passage, it simply means the commandments and ordinances that
prevented Jews from associating with Gentiles.

Acts 10:28; And he said to them, "You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean.

John 4:9; Therefore the Samaritan woman *said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

This is from the old testament laws.

Jos 23:6; "Be very firm, then, to keep and do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you may not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left,
Jos 23:7; so that you will not associate with these nations, these which remain among you, or mention the name of their gods, or make anyone swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them.

Deut 7:2; and when the LORD your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them.
Deut 7:3; "Furthermore, you shall not intermarry with them; you shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor shall you take their daughters for your sons.
Deut 7:4; "For they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods; then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you and He will quickly destroy you.

Neh 9:2; The descendants of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

Ezra 9:1; Now when these things had been completed, the princes approached me, saying, "The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands, according to their abominations, those of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians and the Amorites.
Ezra 9:2; "For they have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and for their sons, so that the holy race has intermingled with the peoples of the lands; indeed, the hands of the princes and the rulers have been foremost in this unfaithfulness."
Ezra 9:3; When I heard about this matter, I tore my garment and my robe, and pulled some of the hair from my head and my beard, and sat down appalled.

Ezek 44:6; "You shall say to the rebellious ones, to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Enough of all your abominations, O house of Israel,
Ezek 44:7; when you brought in foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in My sanctuary to profane it, even My house, when you offered My food, the fat and the blood; for they made My covenant void—this in addition to all your abominations.
Ezek 44:8; "And you have not kept charge of My holy things yourselves, but you have set foreigners to keep charge of My sanctuary."
Ezek 44:9; 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "No foreigner uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, of all the foreigners who are among the sons of Israel, shall enter My sanctuary.

Exod 12:43; The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the ordinance of the Passover: no foreigner is to eat of it;
Lev 22:25; nor shall you accept any such from the hand of a foreigner for offering as the food of your God; for their corruption is in them, they have a defect, they shall not be accepted for you.'"

This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof.
Exodus 12:43

We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.
Hebrews 13:10

Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
John 3:3

At that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise. But now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometime were far off, are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Ephesians 2:12, 13

For he is our peace, who hath made both one.... having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace.
Ephesians 2:14, 15

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God.
Ephesians 2:19

If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Revelation 3:20

'There is neither Jew nor Greek,
there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female:
for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.'
(Gal 3:28)

Hello @Br. Bear,

It seems that you are asking if both, 'The Body of Christ,' and, 'The Bride of the Lamb', consist of both male and female: Yet surely gender doesn't play any part in the membership of either company?

Thank you

there is neither male nor female:

This is present tense, not future tense. I assure you, there are certainly males and females. There are Jews and Gentiles, and there are slaves and free-men.

What that verse is saying is... no matter which of these you are... you are of the same value to God.

Hello @B-A-C,

Yes, I agree with your interpretation of Galatians 3:28, yet the question of the OP still remains, and it would appear that both companies referred to consist of both male and female.

Greetings @complete Chris,

Yet surely gender doesn't play any part in the membership of either company?

yet some might be thinking that the Bride is made up of women, and the Body, men?

Thought it might make for interesting discussion and be helpful to all and sundry.

Thank you for your replies

The verses that mention 'all being one in Christ', that you posted, do not really point directly to the 'gender' of His Body and His Bride.

Some also might be thinking that there is another 'group' who are servants and members of the Bridegrooms party, etc.

Bless you ....><>

ps, thank you also @B-A-C Ray, for your replies .....><>

Hello @Br. Bear,

I find it interesting that you make this distinction between 'The Body of Christ', and' The Bride of the Lamb', for so many do not speak of them as two separate companies, but include all believers throughout time as members of both. It is refreshing for me to see that you do make this distinction. I would be interested to know more from you regarding both companies.

The following link contains a study on, 'The Bride and The Body', which you may find interesting.

Thank you

Thank you Chris,

a wee snippet for those interested:

“It is realized that many of the Lord’s people, have for a long time been accustomed to the doctrine of the
"Bride" and the "Body" being the same, and that it is taken for granted as truth.

However REPETITION of doctrine does not make it truth, that MAKES IT VANITY:

ACCEPTANCE of a doctrine by the visible church does not make it truth, that makes for ECCLESIASTICISM:

AGE of doctrine does not make it truth, that MAKES FOR TRADITION.

The child of God must have an open mind toward the Lord and His Word willing to cast aside the most cherished of
teachings if proved untrue by the Word".

Bless you ....><>

Whosoever will!!
