Why do you go to your church? Is it because most of your friends go there? Is it because it is based more on your own background? Is it because its a large congregation?

What is supposed to decided which church to go to?
Any advice and comments would be great!
Thanks

Romans 14:5

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. Romans 14:5

I am fully persuaded, after answering all the questions I had about it through God's Spirit.

o..wow .....this is a very good question...
why do i go to church...
i think i used to go to church cause i wanted to see my friends at church
cause i didnt really get to see them during the week...
then i went to church cause i really liked it there and had heaps of fun!!!!!
and now i go to church cause my fam goes and my parents want me to go....
i mean thats a wrong reason but hey its fine for me...i mean if they wouldnt say i
have to go i dont think i would go any more....but o well thats a different story...!!!!

i dont think i can give u any advise how to look for a church...cause i never had to look for a church to go to i always went and still will go to the churches my fam goes to...
but i think u should go to a church where u feel at home and welcomed!!thats important...i think!!

god bless
kara

Well i think we should go to church in the right frame of mind, we should go because we want to worship our lord and hear the word of god, so it can penetrate our spirits and therefore become tranformed more like Jesus,

Then there is the command to remmember jesus by his body and blood is another reason.

Then theres the fellowship with gods people

I have felt sometimes when going to church that "hey i never got much out of that sermon" but the more i think of it, the condition of my heart wasnt in a recieving mode, when we go to church we need to be ready to hear from god.

As for which church to go to? ......... Pray for direction and guidance, and god will show you.

Sometimes God wants you in a specific church, thats why we need to pray until god reveals his will to us.

I personally changed church as i felt my heart was drawn to another and as i prayed about it.......... my answer was confirmed in the word of god.

I go to church already.
I have been going for quite a while now.
As I have grown deeper and more of a passion for growing in Christ, I have been sorta drawn away from the church I am currently attending.
Its a large church...maybe 1500 +..yes 1500 + members and it is overwhelming because its hard to build close friendships, hard to get specific guidence when its hard to build on friendships. The only reason I am at this church right now is because i am involved in a ministry, as well as everyone knowing me. By knowing me I mean ppl coming up to me and say "hi how r u" etc etc. I can honestly say that no one has ever reached out to me and said "how is your spiritual life?" The other reason I like this church is beccause I love the Sunday service. I love the worship and I love listening to the Word. I dont know if thats a good reason to stay or not but im praying about it.

youll know if by the peace of god in your mind if you are to move church,
you are drawn away because of lack of proper fellowship in a deeper sence spiritually,

If you say you love the service, worship and listening to the word, and involved in ministry it sounds like you are enjoying your current church, and the way forward is to pray for more christian fellowship in a deeper level, its amazing wot who god can put in your way to give you that deeper fellowship and guidance, when you ask him.

have you mentioned this to your pastor?

in my own experiance i was in a church where i felt restricted in a way but i loved the pastor ha was a friend who helped me and my wife come to the lord, so i had a difficult choice to make - Should i let my pastor down ? or should i go with my heart?
I prayed about it for some weeks and was torn between the two churches, and god revealed to me my current church ( New wine church ) in Joel ch 3:18.

it wasnt until later on that i knew this was true as i felt such at home with my peace.

hope this helps Jun

Father

I pray for you to give Jun wisdom and guidance in his life at the moment, give him a peace in his heart that passes all understanding, and let him know the direction that you want him to take, bring your children to him to fellowship with in a deeper way and encourage him to do you will.

In Jesus name Amen

Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make you paths straight.

Godbless

Speak to my pastor? I think thats my last option for guidence. When you have a congregation of 1500 + you think I can just go up and tell him how I am feeling. They are always busy, on the go, always talking with other ppl so theres no time to talk to me. As for spiritual guidence, I have God and sometimes through these message boards, and very rarely an odd conversation that I strike up with ppl...thats where my guidence is.
My church is more like a business. Sure I enjoy talking with the ppl, worshiping and listening to the Word but when it comes down to it at the very end...when it comes to my spiritual life which is the number 1 priority, it is nothing that I can get from my church.
Thanks for the prayer!
:D

well if cant go direct to the pastor, can you go to elders or decons, or someone who can help, i know what you mean its like a business where its too big, but god knows your heart and knows that you need spirtual fellowship, therefore he will provide, have faith Jun.

Elders...Decans...we have senior pastor, associate pastor and a few more reg pastors. I dont really bother talking with other ppl in the congregation because they are just going to forget or not talk to me. Or I just ask them something and they judge me and tell me some other advice. No one takes the time to actually "talk" so. Im not trying to say negetive things about my church. They mean good. Maybe they dont take me seriously because I look young.
I always try to get involved in stuff like home group or stuff like that but they never bother to phone me back and tell me what im supposed to do.
Its a busy busy church haha

Yea Jun i can understand where you are coming from,my church is the same way with alot of people and stuff like that. But as far as speaking to someone i can see it can be hard to find someone who will listen to you.I guess i am fortunate enough to have people in my church who will listen when i need advice or something. The associate pastor at my church just happens to be around my age(23) and hes a great listener. So i guess trying to connect with someone your age my be of some help.Im not really great at giving advice..but its something.Have a blessed day Jun.

Jun, I know exactly where you're coming from. The church I've just left has just about 200 people, but the pastor has no time or inclination to talk to me. Like yourself for spiritual guidance I go to God, and he speaks through His word. That's why finding here is very important to me for fellowship. It is very sad, but I'd an old man in his 80's came to visit me yesterday. He's been getting the same treatment as me. Because we walk intimately with the Father we are accused of being "too holy". And that starts from the pastor right down through the church. Just be led by your spirit. God will tell you where He wants you to go and give you His peace.

Look for a church where you enjoy being at their service. A church where you can use what God has put into your heart, a church who teach the Bible, a church with a lot of praise and worship.

I dont know wher you live. For some people this can be a luther church, for others a pentecost or a baptist church.

You need frieds and someone to support you in your christian life and you can support others

It has somewhat to do with your personal preferences. If you prefer contemporary music, then you may not be comfortable in "traditional" worship settings. Do you believe that women should wear dresses and high-heeled shoes to church and men should wear suits and ties? or do you feel more comfortable in casual attire? In checking out churches, get there ahead of the service time and see how people are dressed. Also, notice how many are in your age group.

Most importantly, watch how people act toward you and toward each other. Are they friendly? Do they make newcomers feel welcome? How members of the congregation
act goes a long way in showing how "Christian" they are.

And, of course, check out the message (the sermon). Is it Christ centered? Does it line up
accurately with the Word Of God?

Perhaps I should have listed this point first: Pray, pray, pray for God's guideance. I believe He has a church home picked out for you. Spend lots of quiet time before The Lord so He can guide you to it.

UknowMe,

I pray that the time will come soon when you fall in love with Jesus Christ, as I have. When that happens, the whole church thing will make sense and you will be blessed by a saving relationship with God the Father through His Son.

Awesome! This is also convicting me. I know exactly what you mean JJ.

There are several reasons to attend church. The first is because the Bible says to do it.
MATTHEW 18
20 For where two or three are GATHERED together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Praying in numbers is more powerful then praying alone.
MATTHEW 18
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall AGREE on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
Plus it will strengthen your Faith to hear what God is doing for other people. plus praying one for another. If there was devastation coming your way, which would you rather pray with you 300 that don't speak to you, or 10 or 20 who have a smile and a warm hand shake? A Friend Of Jesus Don
