I once tried a slice of cold porridge with a little bit of butter, and it was absolutely delicious! So nourishing, and just a fraction of the cost of a bar of chocolate. When I mentioned it to my daughter she turned green - stupid girl doesn't know what's good for her!
The thing is, how do you make it? We all know how to make porridge, but how do I make it so it is thick enough to set when it gets cold. Do I used milk and water as per norm, or do I use water only (with a pinch of salt). Would half of the amount of water/milk achieve the desired effect, and how long would it stay fresh? With the winter months already here, I would dearly love to eat something nourishing mid-morning rather than waste money on junk food. I believe it was the staple diet of most working class kids (and their fathers) up North during the 30's when money was scarse - still is!
