Report: ‘China Seeks To Erase Churches’
Wednesday, 15th February 2023

By Stefan J. Bos, Chief International Correspondent Worthy News

BEIJING (Worthy News) – China has launched an effort to “erase” all churches and last year saw an increase in the persecution of Christians in the Communist-run nation, according to a new report obtained by Worthy News.
ChinaAid, a well-informed advocacy group supporting Christians in China, suggested that Chinese people are increasingly forced to worship Chinese President Xi Jinping. It recorded escalating “persecutions against Christian churches
and Christians in mainland China” in 2022.
ChinaAid said in its annual report that a crackdown by the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) made “churches and Christians increasingly afraid of exposing their lived persecution experiences to the outside world.”

ChinaAid’s president and founder, Bob Fu, said that the “CCP implemented various strategies against Christians in 2022, such as new measures against religious content online.
Additionally, he noted that Chinese authorities had used the “infamous zero-COVID policy” linked to the COVID-19 pandemic to limit “or eliminate” Christian gatherings.
Fu also noted that “the Chinese government” using “charges of fraud” financially “suffocated the house church movement.”

GRAVELY CONCERNED
He added: “We are gravely concerned about how the Communist regime also treats the state-sanctioned church. Previously, they asked for sole allegiance to the Communist Party. But since the 20th National Party Congress
[late last year], they shifted their emphasis to aligning with [President] Xi Jinping.”
Fu said that “Their goal is not only to curate a ‘socialist-friendly’ church; they hope to erase it.”

Surveillance in China is among the most oppressive and sophisticated in the world, and Christian leaders have faced imprisonment or, in a small number of cases, abduction.
Churches were closed, and Christmas celebrations were banned in several schools and cities across China, Worthy News monitored.
Bibles, sales of which were always controlled in China, are no longer available for purchase online, a loophole that had existed for years, well-informed sources say.
Fu, a former Chinese church leader forced to flee China, said the “international community needs to know about these trends and developments as China continues to rise on the global stage.”

CHRISTIANITY SPREADING
His comments come amid mounting East-West tensions over the future direction of China and its growing military power.
Church observers say China experienced an explosion in the number of devoted Christians despite the reported crackdown.

The government has grown wary of Christianity, which it views as a threat to the Communist ideology and power base, as several groups also have links with Western countries.
There are at least nearly 100 million Christians in China living among 1,4 billion people, according to church group estimates. Some, including Communist officials, reportedly suggested it could be as high as 130 million.

Beijing is also concerned about Islam. In Xinjiang province, a surveillance and internment system has been built for Muslim minorities, notably the Uighurs, with many being mistreated in camps, rights groups say.
President Xi has denied wrongdoing but warned that the country should guard against “infiltration” through religion and “extremist ideology.”

We ought to pray for them. From the Chinese Christians I've talked with, most of them don't have a firm foundation in their faith. Many will give up their faith under pressure.

Having lived in China as a foreigner for extended periods of time, the Chinese people in general are the most oppressed group among other nationalities. I posted on other threads that they are in a state of learned helplessness, its been going on for many generations. Since Qin dynasty united China under authoritarian rule, the Chinese have never been free from corrupt governance. War (civil or foreign invasion), famine, corrupt rulers is a vicious cycle that the devil has laid upon this land and its people.

People in the West born after WW2 cannot understand why the Chinese are the way they are because western countries are prosperous, western civilians have many civil rights and they have never lived in a state of survival struggles like the Chinese did. When the only means for you to survive and have a good life is to worship the government, engage in all kinds of immorality to which the government is also a benefactor, most human beings at the civilian level will succumb to worshipping the government and doing evil. Horrible as it looks, that is what the Chinese had to deal with. Choose between survival or righteousness, in a country that promotes atheism. Even Christians living under such pressures may choose survival over righteousness, how can we expect the Chinese (many who have zero knowledge of our Savior) to choose righteousness instead?

When you are not treated like a human being, you won't be able to treat others like human beings either. You should be amazed to find even one righteous Chinese who had to live in such a corrupting environment. That is the state of the Chinese, and its not their fault that they live under such corrupt rule. What can unarmed civilians do to change those already in power? Nothing, and those who tried to expose the evil were either brutally killed or persecuted. This kind of tragedy happened throughout history, and not just in one nation. Corruption always starts from the top and then travels downwards to the civilians. Israel's corrupt leaders in the Old Testament destroyed Israel and corrupted the Israelites many times in Bible history, and that is a nation that already knows or acknowledges God. You can only expect worse from a nation that has denied God altogether.

If you have no sympathy for the plight of the people in this nation, then I really wonder where your faith is. Jesus said to even love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.

Will Chinese House Churches Survive the Latest Government Crackdown?

Despite years of persecution, the jiating movement persists.

House Churches In China

This week, China sentenced Early Rain Covenant Church pastor Wang Yi to nine years in prison.
This conviction was the latest attack on jiating (house church) congregations and came a year after officials took more than 100 leaders and members of the prominent congregation into custody.
The round-up had come on the heels of the government shutting down Beijing Zion Church, one of China’s capital largest house churches, after the congregation refused to install surveillance cameras in its sanctuary.
The crackdown on Beijing Zion marked the beginning of a new campaign by the Chinese Communist party-state to eliminate all jiating churches in China.
With these high-profile forced closure of several prominent jiating congregations, the Chinese authorities have now begun zeroing in on the lesser known but numerous jiating churches throughout China.

The Chinese government may want to shut down the churches, but as we know, persecution only feeds the Church. Pastor Samuel Lamb said that every time he went to prison, his church doubled, therefore he welcomed persecution.

China needs a spiritual awakening. Let's pray for revival in the churches (they need it). But let's also pray that the Spirit of God begins moving in schools and universities, shops, office buildings, police stations, and government buildings. Pray that the Spirit of God begins convicting people of sin: students, police, military, government employees, the lady sitting in her shop looking at her phone all day, the fruit and vegetable sellers, the trash collectors, the old people in the park -- people from every strata of Chinese society.

Oh, for more prayer for China.
