Computer virus warning for April fools

Trend Micro is offering free protection against a new variant of a malicious Internet worm that infected an estimated 15 million computers last year and is expected to be launched by “cyberfools” on 1 April 2009, also known as April Fool’s Day. Internet security expert, Trend Micro, predicts this new version will be even more sophisticated than its predecessor, which caused one of the most widespread infections in recent times.

“Advance protection is the best defence to this attack,” said David Peterson, consumer segment director for Trend Micro in Australia and New Zealand. “If you have good Internet security software on your computer already, make sure that it’s up to date before Tuesday, March 31. Basic anti-virus software will not be enough.

“If you’re out of time or out of money to buy the latest Internet security software by Tuesday, get onto our website and get a free Trend Micro HouseCall virus scan and clean. It’s not as quick as a PC version, but will serve to protect you against the cyberfools in the short-term,” he said.

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security Pro users are already protected by the Smart Protection Network, which blocks such worm attacks and prevents them from running in systems.

Trend Micro™ HouseCall can be found at Trend Micro HouseCall - Free Online Virus and Spyware Scan - Trend Micro Australia. The application checks whether your computer has been infected by viruses, spyware, or other malware and performs additional security checks to identify and fix vulnerabilities to prevent re-infection.
Trend Micro detects this new variant as worm_downad.kk. It is also known as Conficker, and is expected to be launched on April Fool’s Day this year. Symptoms of the virus may include the termination of security-related processes, blocked access to security and antivirus websites, and the prevention of system startup in safe mode.

Protection against cyberfools huh...now theres a program!

If you dont see me after tomorrow, you can blame the worm...but i`m blaming Fellowservant...

I got two copies of this so called hallmark "conficker" email worm/virus scare today. Of course, my Outlook and antivirus program (Avira) protected me. I deleted both after reporting them both to SpamCop.net - Beware of cheap imitations

You can also go to Microsoft and download the malicious software removal tool to be sure
