He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. Romans 4:20-21 KJV
Abraham fully believed that God would make his name great, and that all the families of the earth would be blessed through him, just as God promised in Genesis 12:1-3. As a result, it was “counted unto him for righteousness” (Romans 4:3 KJV). But, the scripture says those words were not written for his sake alone, but that you too would be counted as righteous when you believe in the God who raised Jesus from the dead.
What does that mean for you today?
Consider the object of your faith. Are you placing your faith in your ability to keep the law? In your acts of obedience? In your church attendance or Bible reading? Or is it in the God who raised Jesus from the dead? His promise to you is eternal life.
Do not stagger at God’s promise through unbelief in the wrong thing. He is faithful, even though you are not.
Prayer: Father, You are a covenant-keeping God, faithful to the end. Conversely, I am a sinner who often strays from my promises to You. But I never want to stray from my faith in Your gift of eternal life.
