I love Bill Nye.
That being said, please take the time to review this very short clip in which this lovable T.V. scientists tries and fails to break my heart. This is my personal response and opinions in regards to this video:

What is unique to the United States is not that people believe in creation theories, but that people believe that education should exclude ideas about how our universe began that do not go hand in hand with Darwinism and evolution. Shouldn't children be offered manifold theories of creation and be allowed to formulate their own ideas and opinions as they learn and grow?
Mr. Nye quoted his old professor, Carl Sagan, stating that "When you're in love, you want to tell the world." I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly. I fell in love the word of God, and I want to tell the world; this includes children! Mr. Nye also states that when you do not believe in evolution, your world becomes "fantastically complicated." If I am not mistaken, the world is by definition "complicated," and "fantastically" so:

complicated

: hard to understand, explain, or deal with : having many parts or steps

Full Definition of complicated
1
: consisting of parts intricately combined <a complicated recipe>
2
: difficult to analyze, understand, or explain <a complicated issue>

fantastic or fantastical

adjective

1.
conceived or appearing as if conceived by an unrestrained imagination; odd and remarkable; bizarre; grotesque:
fantastic rock formations; fantastic designs.
2.
fanciful or capricious, as persons or their ideas or actions:
We never know what that fantastic creature will say next.
3.
imaginary or groundless in not being based on reality; foolish or irrational:
fantastic fears.
4.
extravagantly fanciful; marvelous.
5.
incredibly great or extreme; exorbitant:
to spend fantastic sums of money.
6.
highly unrealistic or impractical; outlandish:
a fantastic scheme to make a million dollars betting on horse races.
7.
Informal. extraordinarily good:
a fantastic musical.

Mr. Nye, with such a brilliant mind, insinuates that children who are taught, or believe in biblical or any other creation theory besides evolution are incapable of becoming "...scientifically literate voters and taxpayers for the future. We need engineers that can build stuff, solve problems..." What evidence substantiates the theory that children who are taught or believe in anything besides evolution are incapable of becoming responsible, educated, and successful adults? How did we get here thus far? Is not the world we live in built upon the ideas and discoveries of many men and women who believed in some form of divine creation? Were people incapable of being "scientific" before the theory of evolution came about? Not all scientists dispute creation theories. And yet, those scientists continue to be intelligent and capable people.

I also refuse to accept Mr. Nye's idea that "...In another couple centuries th-that world view, I'm sure, will be ... just wont exist. It's, it's ... there's no evidence for it." God has made himself quite evident in my own life, and in the lives of countless others I am sure. (He has had a way of doing this since the beginning of time.) So long as our country is free, children should be allowed to learn about all ideas of how the universe came to be; being free to believe as they wish!

I am utterly thankful that I live in a land where when children ask me questions, I am allowed to give them answers from the word of God.

If you believe in creation or more specifically, the bible, please take a moment to reflect on some scripture that came to mind while dealing with this topic. Let us remember Mr. Nye in prayer. If you do not believe, then thank you for reading and please consider that we all started out as children who were offered a world of information to dissect, digest, and make sense of. Many children who have learned about the bible's and other's creation stories have grown, and still grow up to become successful, functioning members of society. It is not yet altogether unheard of.

"Science" is not excluded from the bible:

Daniel 1:3 ¶ And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes; 4 Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: 21 Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

Should we argue over this issue?

Proverbs 23:12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. 9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain

1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. 10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. 11 These things command and teach. 12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Will creation theories not based in evolution become obsolete?

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

That's his view on it then. No one has to agree with him if they do not want to do so. If you believe in evolution then that's great and vice versa. You can believe in creation also. There will always be people who harp on you for it but they are over reacting. You are entitled to what you believe.

My issue is not with the fact that Mr. Nye believes in evolution, but that he insinuates children who do not believe in evolution will not be capable of becoming responsible adults or be able to "build stuff." The suggestion that believing in creation takes away from a person's intellect or ability is ludicrous.

Thank you for your post.

God bless.

Mr Nye's idea is flawed regarding scientific minds. We just have to look at some early scientists Bacon, Newton, Kepler, Galileo, Pascal, Boyle, Dalton, Linnaeus, Mendel, Maxwell, and Kelvin these great scientific minds all believed in God. And as Galileo has been quoted as saying " The bible tells us how to get to heaven, not how the heavens go!"

I pity their souls.
