Hey, everybody!
Well, being female, I have never been into strength/weight training; for some reason it has always bored me and I thought I didn't need it. I love to run or walk outside or my treadmill. I love to do aerobics with fitness dvd's. But...strength training? Always, my legs have been strong since high school (when I was on track team and cross-country team), but I have been weak in all other body areas. I thought it didn't matter.
I joined Curves one month ago. It's just 35 dollars a month. It's a nationwide fitness club for women only. They play a mix of Christian music and other pop music...none of the music is offensive or dirty...each song with a peppy beat.
It is a combination of cardiovascular and strength training just for women that will firm and define without giving you an over-muscular look.
In one month, I have lost an inch on my waist and firmed my abdomen. The most noticeable changes are on my shoulders and back. My shoulders when wearing a tank top at my home are more defined instead of all "soggy" looking. The little fat pockets on my lower back are nearly gone!
Being with other women and working out together provides fellowship, laughter, entertainment, and new friendships. By the time you're done listening and talking, your workout is almost over!
The receptionist at our local club is an awesome Christian. Today, she shared verses with me and prayed out loud with me for a full 45 minutes! I had to come back later to work out, as I was pressed for time! But prayer beats everything.
No one wears skimpy clothes or tries to show-off, out-do each other, etc.
I love it!
I thank God for Curves. I signed a 2 year contract and I'm glad I did. Sometimes we women/mothers need to give a little time to ourselves so we can be full of love to love our family/friends. It's not selfish to be healthy and feel good. It's taken me a long time to learn that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that it's not prideful to want to be in good physical health.
I would like to add that there are no mirrors on the walls of workout area, so that people feel uncomfortable or self-conscious. The only place there is a mirror is in the bathroom. It's about having fun and being healthy.
