Those who are single & expecting to be parents, would you like to pre experience the joy, sorrow, strength & the helplessness of being a mother?
Those who are lonely & has confirmed within your selves that only God is there for you & only His word strengthen you, would you like to experience motherly love & care from a human being?

Here’s the way…

This is a special ministry which was introduced to my church by Campus Crusade, SriLanka & through this ministry hundreds of sinners have been saved & they have committed their selves to God in unbelievable ways. I’m one of the living testimonies who was not only saved but was guided to walk in the path of Christ through this ministry.
We call this ministry DESCIPLESHIP & I would like to define it as follows.

D- Discipline
E- Enthusiasm
S- Sensitiveness
C- Confidence
I- Inspiration
P- Patience
L- Love
E- Eternal

(There might be other definitions as well. But, this is what I have experienced through this ministry)

Through this ministry a person who was evangelized will be built up to a level of a strong & a faithful Christian.
The biggest mistake we do as Christians is that after we evangelize & people accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior we will direct them to a church & will just was away our hands being satisfied as we were able to bring another sinner from darkness towards the light of the righteous God.
But, can any one of us guarantee that the person, who accepted the Savior will get to know Him, will follow Him & will experience the true joy & meaning of being a Christian? NO

If I am to mention my self as an example, after accepting Jesus as my personal savior & getting converted to Christianity I have spent many years going a stray not knowing my savior properly. Christianity was just another religion to me where I heard that miracles happen & therefore I believed that this God is living.
But, that never lead me to live the life God wants me to. But, through this ministry I was able to get to know this living God & I was pushed to follow Him & therefore today I experience the true joy & meaning of being a Christian.
Let me give you a brief introduction of how this happens.

Once a person accepts Jesus as his / her personal savior, within 48 hours he/she will be directed to a faithful member of the church (who has gone through Discipleship) whom I would like to call a spiritual mother, for constant follow ups to build up as a disciple of Christ.

This is why in the beginning of my message I mentioned whether you would like to experience Motherhood. You might be a male, you might be a female but, this is the only opportunity God has given all of us to experience this equally. The only responsibility of the spiritual mother is to be a mother spiritually as well as in all possible ways.

During Discipleship below stages will be occurred.

Spiritual Mother --------> Disciple
1st stage Mother --------> Baby
2nd Stage Teacher --------> Child
3rd Stage Guide --------> Teenage / Youth
4th Stage Friend --------> Adult

I believe all of us experience above life stages of a disciple in Christ. Hence, we know that all what a baby should be given are milk, love, care & warmth of the mother. A child should be given healthy food, taught, Corrected, advised, punished, loved & taken care of. But, a teenage / youth will only allow guidance added with love & care. An adult would prefer a close friendship.

Thus the spiritual mother will have to change her ways while carefully watching & following up the spiritual growth of the disciple. Me being a disciple I experienced love, warmth & care of my spiritual mother for the past three years. At times I was advised, corrected & punished but, with a great love. But, through out I was taught. Taught in the word of God. Today, I’m guided to walk in Jesus’ way.
Also, I’m a spiritual mother of 3. Out of those 3 I would call one a baby, one a child and one a teenage. I spend one hour per week for each of them sitting together listening to them, praying for them and sharing the word of God with them.
Thus I have committed 3 hours per week fully for them. Yet, I cannot be satisfied. They come up with certain issues which as a human being I’m unable to assist in solving. Therefore, I do not forget them in my daily prayers. Also, I’m in constant touch with them through phone calls and sms and I make sure that I get them involved in simple ministries such as arranging chairs etc. which will develop a servant heart in them.
Most of all, for me each day is a challenge as I have to prove my relationship and fellowship with God to them.
As I mentioned earlier I would like to call this as an awesome & a wonderful ministry. But, yet so heart breaking, discouraging & dangerous at times. Jesus had 12 disciples. He loved John so much that John used to lean on his breast & followed him even after his resurrection. But, Peter for whom Jesus loved and had a purpose denied Him thrice and Judas another disciple whom He trusted betrayed Him. Yet, Jesus never let go of his disciples, the remaining 11 & even after resurrection He showed His love to them & gave them the great command. Matthew 28:19.

That is why this ministry is so important. Because, through this ministry we commit ourselves to do the last will of Jesus while His stay on earth. To make " DESCIPLES”.

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:26-27
So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:33

Amen..Through descipleship those who are weak will be guided to bear their own cross and follow Jesus.

It is very touching to learn of the Lord is aranging for His precious children to be raised and matured in His ways, even in His Body in Sri Lanka.
I have been introduced into Discipleship since about 10 Years ago and it has been a help to me and my wife in our christian journey.
In my own Country, even though we do have a "ministry" for as they have in Sri Lanka, but there are pockets of Churches and Fellowships that believe strongly in the process and give their time, resources and lives to raising lives after the Lord Jesus Christ. We call such "Fathers" and "Mothers" as "Disciplers" while we call the "Children" under them as "Disciples", no matter their ages.
I have discovered that it is a sure and safe way to becomelike Jesus.
I rejoice with you Sister Mihiri and pray that The Lord will help you in mothering the precious souls he brings your path. Pray for me and all in the process too.
