Dare We Expect Miracles Today?
A.W. Tozer

I also long in the tender mercies of Christ that among us there may be the following: . . . 8. Answers to prayer; miracles should not be uncommon. I am not a miracle preacher. I have been in churches where they announced miracle meetings. If you look in the Saturday newspaper you will see occasionally somebody who will hit town and announce, "Come out and see some miracles." That kind of performing I do not care for. You cannot get miracles as you would get a chemical reaction. You cannot get a miracle as you get a wonderful act on stage by a magician. God does not sell Himself into the hands of religious magicians. I do not believe in that kind of miracles. I believe in the kind of miracles that God gives to His people who live so close to Him that answers to prayer are common and these miracles are not uncommon.

John Wesley never lowered himself to preach miracles once in his life. But the miracles that followed John Wesley's ministry were unbelievable. On one instance he had to make an engagement, and his horse fell lame and could not travel. Wesley got down on his knees beside his horse and prayed for its healing. Then he got back up and rode, without the horse limping, to where he was going. He did not publicize the miracle and say, "We'll have a big tent here and advertize it." God just did those things for him. While C. H. Spurgeon did not preach healing, he had more people delivered in answer to his prayer than any doctor in London. Those are the kinds of miracles I am talking about.

Very enlightening, I think we all had millions of prayers answered and times were we KNEW God has performed a miracle,

Who is John Wesley? I'm sorry about my ignorance.

Amen brother this is very good, you don't have to advertise miracles they just come to his faithful saints. And i have seen many in my life personally. God is a personal God, and its wonderful to see him work miracles in your life, that even some others can see. All for his glory, glory to his name...

God bless

The bible teaches that signs and wonders shall follow them....Not believers running after the miracles But miracles running after believers. This is what i mean and I like what you wrote "..But the miracles that followed John Wesley's ministry were unbelievable" Key word Followed.

I dont see anything wrong in testifying of what God has done or the miracle that i've received as long as am with good motives. The reason been that testimony i believe can elevate someones faith (Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God). Note that hearing is repeated twice that's emphasis, so the moment a downcast believer hears the miracles God has done then Faith is elevated. This can deliver or provide an answer to their needs. This also shows that God is in working, and unbelievers can testify there is God.

I expect miracles in my life, in my home, my family, in my church, where-ever I am I anticipate the presence of Jesus, and in a miraculous way if necessary. The distinguishing feature of the ministry of Jesus and the Early Church was God's presence to save, deliver, set free, heal, uplift an so on. "I am come that you may have life......." said Jesus. The words would indicate He meant something more than we have naturally. The text continues "more abundantly" That would be a supernatural level indeed.

Please do not think I am seeing wonderful things, needs miraculously met, no cares whatsoever etc.......because this is not the case. I am trusting Jesus for a bodily need even as I write this, which has been with me for 6 mths. But without doubt I am absolutely sure that in a moment God can set me free.

In the "Acts of the Apostles" we see what they were able to do as they preached and evangelised throughout the middle-east. Not the acting of the Apostles, but the Acts. "great fear came upon them" as a result of the happenings, because Jesus in the presence of the Holy Spirit was with them.

What has changed?

If we could only get back to that we would see another "turning the world upside down" as they did. I am expecting a revival before the Rapture

Brother Stephen, i stand with you in agreement for that bodily need you've got and i believe Jesus He's going to do it. The bible teaches, the expectations of a righteous man shall not be cut off, key word Expectations. As long as we are expectant He will perform it, that's His word. He's able lets keep on believing. Be blessed!

I remember a "miracle meeting" I went to about twenty years ago. This so-called "healing evangelist" had come to town and was drawing crowds to his meetings. At the meeting I attended, he had a number of people lined up to "receive the Spirit". I believe that at that moment the real Spirit warned me not to fall for this guy's theatrics.

Sure enough, he told us to close our eyes; then he came down the line muttering some words as he stood in front of each person. After each "prayer", he would hit the person in the forehead with the back of his hand. The force of the blow caught people by surprise because their eyes were closed.

He proclaimed that people were falling under the power of the Spirit when, in reality, he was hitting them in the forehead with a blow that could have knocked a mule down.

Brothers and sisters, be wary of these "miracle evangelists"; pray for discernment before paying them serious attention.
