Hello all!

I suppose I'm wondering what your opinions are about a member of the congregation dating the vicar. It might sound like an odd question! Do you think that it is appropriate to date the vicar of your own church?

To be honest, I'm not even sure if there are any specific guidelines for this particular situation. Are there any?

Any and all opinions/comments/suggestions would be welcomed!

(I have to say that this is my first post, but I have spent the afternoon reading through all of the amazing messages. Thank you for bringing me so much comfort already - I wish I had known about talkjesus earlier in the year!! But I thank the Lord that I have found you now )

Hello Dippy and welcome to talk Jesus! WE are also glad you found us ... I dont know what a vicar is could you please tell me the meaning for that word... I googled it and it said an order of priesthood mostly in the catholic church...

Hello!

Thanks so much for the kind reply - I'm having a great time wondering through the forums! I already feel at home here.

A vicar is the (protestant) priest of a parish in the Church of England who receives a stipend or salary but does not receive the tithes of a parish. (At least that's what the dictionary says ) In this case the vicar is an Anglican church leader.

Thank you again for your reply!

ohhh yeah I dont know the "rules" so to speak but I would think that dating in a respectful way would be ok...

Yeah - I have no idea about the rules either. I really don't want there to be an awkward situation though. It's so difficult to ensure that everything is acceptable. To be perfectly honest, in addition to upsetting the vicar by not knowing "the way to go about it" I'm worried about the reaction of the congregation!

We live and learn, and they do say that mistakes maketh the man; not sure I really want to make any mistakes with this though. It's probably one of the hardest scenarios I've ever encountered!

I can't believe that I can't find any information about it on the Internet - I don't think I'm looking properly!

Thanks again!

Colossians 1:9
For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Let the Holy Spirit convict you and grant you wisdom to discern and understand GOD's will and His commands for you, your church congregation and everyone who surrounds you.

God bless you sister. Welcome to Talk Jesus

Never mind, I looked it up! Is this correct? :

The priest of a parish in the Church of England who receives a stipend or salary but does not receive the tithes of a parish.
A cleric in charge of a chapel in the Episcopal Church of the United States.
A cleric acting in the place of a rector or bishop in the Anglican Communion generally.
Roman Catholic Church A priest who acts for or represents another, often higher-ranking member of the clergy.

Paul gave Titus explicit instructions on the qualifications for an elder (Ti 1:5-10) and I think it goes without saying that anyone who marries a vicar must hold to those values as well.

That person should also be aware of the fact that he/she will be thoroughly scrutinized by the wagging tongues in the congregation. Such a person must be prepared for spiritual battle, I think.

Thank you all for your posts - the references were very helpful to me. Thank you for taking the time to help me with my odd question! I really do appreciate it - you've given me the confidence to just go with the flow. As they say; If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat!
