On one hand we have verses like...
2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
2 Tim 4:2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
Php 1:15 Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will;
Php 1:16 the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;
Php 1:17 the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment.
Tit 1:9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.
Php 1:7 For it is only right for me to feel this way about you all, because I have you in my heart, since both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of grace with me.
These verses tell us to reprove, rebuke, correct and defend the Gospel. Although admitted 2 Tim 4:2 says to do with great patience.
On the other hand there are verses like...
Rom 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.
Tit 3:9 But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.
Rom 13:13 Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.
Gal 5:19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
So rather than get into a bunch of scripture wars here. I am curious, what do you think Jesus would do if he saw someone preaching something contrary to God?
I didn't want to put this is the polls and just have two answers. "Defend of Gospel no matter what" or "Be at peace no matter what", Because I'm not sure it's
ever that simple. So I genuinely and sincerely ask.... what do you think we should do?
Hopefully there will not need to be any debate here, but all opinions all welcomed.
