BBC News - Murderer dubbed potential 'Ripper' by judge faces whole-life term

Are people demon posessed today? How common is it? I read in the gospels and Acts there seemed to be at least one demon posessed person in every town.

I don't think I've led a sheltered life but I've never come come across anyone I'd suspect as posessed. I've known devil worshipers and Wicken but they didn't come across as posessed. Well not like I read in the gospels.

Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Mark 9:20‭-‬22 NKJV

And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. Mark 5:2‭-‬5 NKJV

Jesus often equated serious diseases and maladies as being from demon possession or at least the work of demons.
Often Jesus cast out a demon or more in order to heal a person and make them 'whole.'
I believe that demons have much to do with what passes as serious mental illness or madness.
Many a murderer has claimed voices in their head.
Then there are the false prophets and false religious teaches who tend to be charismatic and draw people to themselves.

Before I was born from above I was under the power of sin - and sin does bind a person and makes them a slave to the darkness.

How common and prevalent is this condition?

Great question.

So much to say, but to be concise I'll say,

There are various levels at which one is influenced by demons.

This scale is created by me from personal, professional (mental health-work experience), and scripture knowledge/experience.

(Stage one) Deception
-- In the deception stage demons/evil spirits speak to you to lead you astray. Influence is done through lies. You think that
the speaking of the demon is your own thoughts and you act on it. People get here through doing certain behaviors
which attract the attention of demons. If you start lying by choice, you will attract a demon of lies and seeing that
you enjoy do such a behavior, it will come and speak in your mind lies and since you are already prone to that sin,
it will be that much harder for you to tell if it is your thoughts or the demon's. Same with lust. Look at something lustful and you
will attract the attention of lustful demons.

(Stage two) Strong influence/Stronghold
--In the Influence or stronghold stage one has already been engaged in a certain behavior overall, and the influence
of the demon grows very strong. Spirit chains seem to be present. Yet the person is still able to resist, though it take
much effort and is a great struggle. People in this stage find themselves in negative habits, addictions, obsessive behaviors,
fears, anger, etc. The are still not possessed because they are still in control, but the demon has strong influence/stronghold
in their life that requires strong effort to resist.

(Stage three) Full possession
-- In this stage resistance is futile. The demon has the keys and can come in and does what they want when they want.
Demons are finite, not omni-present, so from time to time, they leave a person (to attack another), but if they have the keys and "own" you,
or you have left certain gates open, they come back at their choosing and wreak havoc. We see people have issues like
mental health diagnosis like IED (intermittent explosive disorder) or other fits of rage, and other such behaviors that the demon
acts out in full control. The person afterwards often has deep regret for what they did and is sad and dosen't know why they
did what they did.

I've witnessed all 3 close up and person, and worked with clients experiencing all them.
Stage 1 deception (you have control, enemy comes in stealth through lies)
Stage 2 strong influence (you share or struggle for control with the demon)
Stage 3 full possession (you are like its property, it comes as it pleases and makes you do what it wants, you can't stop it, unless you expel it. )

They can be quite subtle. Narcissists for example are demon possessed, those who partake in witchcraft, new age practices could be also demon influenced. They start of small and grow stronger with more demonic interference.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your thoughts and views on this subject but I'm afraid I'm not fully on board with what you say.

I don't see a strong link between demons and mental health. I have known many believers, very dear brothers and sisters who suffer mental health issues but they are definitely, absolutely not demon posessed, though many fear that they are. They are not, rather they are Satan deceived into thinking that because they're not in control of their mood and thoughts. I firmly believe along with modern science that mental health stems from physical abnormality, hormone and chemical imbalance. I also firmly believe that as much as he would like to think he can, Satan has no control over any born again believer. John 10:28.

So for sufferers of run of the mill mental health conditions such as bipolar, depression, schizophrenia etc, go and seek treatment from a psychiatrist or psychologist rather than an exorcist.

Chris, where I do think you're onto something is another condition altogether that we call psychosis. We read all too often about what the press call 'evil killers', often serial killers or those that plan the murder of close relatives to gain an early inheritance. I also think that many terrorists suffer demon possession, those with a murderous loathing of Christians and Jews. I'm talking about radicalised Muslims and far right.

If you look back in history, too many world leaders have displayed psychotic behaviours, Stalin, Idi Amin, Pol Pot and worst of them all, Adolf Hitler.

Mark 5:1 And they came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.
5:2 And when he was come out of the boat, straightway there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
5:3 who had his dwelling in the tombs: and no one could any more bind him, no, not with a chain;
5:4 because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been rent asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: and no one had strength to tame him.
5:5 And always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones.
5:6 And seeing Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him;
5:7 and crying out with a loud voice, saith, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not.
5:8 For he said to him, Come forth, unclean spirit, out of the man.
5:9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he saith to him, My name is Legion; for we are many.

5:15 And they come unto Jesus, and behold the demoniac sitting, clothed and in his right mind, him that had the legion: and they were afraid.
:16 And they that saw it rehearsed to them how it befell the demoniac, and concerning the swine.
5:17 And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders.
5:18 And as he was entering into the boat, the whilom demoniac besought him that he might be with him.
5:19 And he suffered him not, but saith to him, Go to thy house unto thine own and report to them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and he had mercy on thee.
5:20 And he went away, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all marvelled.

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation.
16:16 Who hath believed and is baptized shall be saved; but who hath disbelieved shall be condemned.
16:17 And these signs shall follow them that have believed: in my name shall they cast out demons, speak with tongues;
16:18 and in their hands they shall take up serpents, and if they drink aught deadly, it shall in now wise hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Regardless of whether your born again or not, Satan is going to try every trick and deception possible to torment anyone who dares attach themselves to Jesus and the truth. All it takes is someone to be deceived into getting mixed up in twinsouls / soulmates for example, and the demons then have a portal open to attack you. It could be any sinful desires they take advantage of. And mentally unstable people are ripe for the taking as far as demons are concerned. Narcissism is a classic example of that, no amount of psychology or therapy is going to ever heal them, they are riddled with demons. I have seen and heard mentally disabled people attack others at random, this is demonic.

Why do real Christians need the Holy Spirit of God?
Ephesians 6:10 For the rest, be strong in the Lord, and in the might of his strength.
6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
6:12 For our wrestling is not against blood and flesh, but against the principalities, against the authorities, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spirituals of the wickedness in the heavenlies.

I don't see a strong link between demons and mental health.

Thanks for sharing Andy. This is what comes to my mind.

Ask yourself, what is mental health? I would say that mental health is the health of your mind.

Then ask yourself, what impacts your mind? We know that many things do.

Do evil spirits impact our mind? Can evil spirits try to influence us
with anxious thoughts, obsessive thoughts, issues of anger, etc? Of course, yes.

Are all of these issues related to evil spirits? Of course no.

For example, Job. He was going through some serious depression and Jonah also
went through some depression towards the end of that book. These were not related
to an evil spirit that was giving Job bad thoughts although the devil was putting stress on
him to make him depressed in hopes that he would curse God.

So for Job his depression you could say was not caused by a demon in the sense that we
think a demon comes upon you and now you have a spirit of heaviness, but it was caused
by circumstances which were clearly because of the devil. In Jonah's case, his depression
was caused by the consequences of his actions. Then we see in other places in the Bible
like King Saul, where he had a spirit of depression (heaviness - it is called).

I think the risk we should avoid is painting things Black and White. Meaning it is all a demon
or never a demon. We also should realize that mental health means the health of the mind.
And mind is part of the soul(mind and emotions). And the soul is the union of the spirit and the
body. So while a demon may not always be directly impact our mental health every time, I
agree with you on that, I would caution that if we try to separate the health of the mind
apart from understanding that the mind is the union of the body and the spirit, therefore
the health of the spirit (spiritual things--which include demons) have an influence on our minds.

We should ask ourselves, is there anyone who has a mind but no spirit?

Hard to say what percentage of people have demons but my guess is if I were to actually pray for people I know, I would probably get spiritual information regarding all of them. (But I frequently run into limits where I have no need to know because although I can see the spiritual problem, I cannot influence the person due to interpersonal relationship problems or lack of a relationship). (For example I'm concerned that my half brother 11 years older than me is depressed due to shared guilt regarding my own childhood abuse, but I cannot ask him about that yet. )

I've had direct spiritual conflict with about 16 demons in 4 people. Two of which had about 7 of them, one of which is on the BPD/DID spectrum for sure, the other strongly suspected. One of them was a 16 yr old girl half my age who was attracted to me, the other was a man twice age who liked me but not in that manner lol (he had a severe anger problem that went away after I engaged something in the spiritual realm). 2 years later I met his daughter and she told me he abused her a lot but they had reconciled and he was a lot more stable.

10 percent of people diagnosed with BPD kill themselves if that gives you any indicator.. and it takes about 10 years of therapy to get a DID diagnosis, both of those disorders can only be formed by severe childhood trauma. My guess is there is 50% overlap in both of those diagnoses and only 5 to 20% of people with those problems ever get a diagnosis.

In my wife's case, I asked her to go into the memories of a demon entering into her, about 8 months after a friend of mine and I cast them out. ( I was concerned she was still hiding some things) She didn't see any sins in those memories, but she saw her mom, taking her to a Riki energy healer when she was 4 or 5 years old. She knows of other girls who were influenced by that same person, but we don't have an opportunity yet to engage those people.

A certain homeless person hisses at anyone who tries to talk to her, she stares at me in an unnatural way. Her daughter posts on Facebook telling people to stop wasting their time trying to help her.

My dad's personality changed for the better after he had a dream showing him demons jumping in and out of his body and using him to terrorize his family.

I'd say at least 20% of the population from my point of view is strongly influenced by demons but not to the point of pushing some random person in front of a subway train.

As the majority of the population have chosen to either reject God or rebel against him and are following satan and his worldy desires. I would say these people are ripe for exploitation. They certainly are not Gods, so therefore the only other influence they have is Satan and his demons.

I agree that many do rebel against God and are ripe for exploitation. Very true. 100%.

I'll add:--- We have the world, the flesh, and the devil.

In our flesh we are messed up and our habits and tendencies can lead to destruction behaviors even
without the aid of a demon. We are sinful by nature and prone to sinful bondage forming habits.

Then we have the world, which tempts us (alcohol, sex, money, etc) to form bad habits,

Then we have the devil and evil spirits which are actively carrying out a plan to lead us astray.

So we get it from all sides. A corrupt flesh born in sin, a corrupt world, and an active devil. All 3 play a part in
our mental health. The battle is within us(flesh), around us(the world), and invisible to us(the devil).
