Last night I had a terrifying experience. I woke to find a dark shadow getting into the bed beside me. I felt it's evil, it put it's head close to my face and I felt it mocking and threatening. I felt myself paralysed but I prayed with all my strength, crying out the name of Jesus Christ to help me. For a few seconds the apparition wouldn't budge but I focussed on Jesus's name. Suddenly it disappeared but I felt it's huge power and threat.
I lay with heart pounding and recited the Lord's Prayer. Thanking Jesus for saving me. As I switched the light on, my dog came in. It was like he knew something had happened and he wanted to ensure I was ok. I prayed more, then slept.

I would like advice please and to be recommended prayer and readings in the Bible, in order to protect myself. I need to reflect and change my ways as I realise I have allowed the past couple of years to distract and dishearten me away from my church, from people and from God. Fear has ruled instead of love.
Also - has anyone had this kind of experience of a demonic attack? Please share it here. I know mine was real. It was not a nightmare. That creature was from hell and only the name of Jesus chased it away.

Suddenly it disappeared but I felt it's huge power and threat.
I lay with heart pounding and recited the Lord's Prayer. Thanking Jesus for saving me. As I switched the light on, my dog came in. It was like he knew something had happened and he wanted to ensure I was ok. I prayed more, then slept.

I would like advice please and to be recommended prayer and readings in the Bible, in order to protect myself. I need to reflect and change my ways as I realise I have allowed the past couple of years to distract and dishearten me away from my church, from people and from God. Fear has ruled instead of love.
Also - has anyone had this kind of experience of a demonic attack? Please share it here. I know mine was real. It was not a nightmare. That creature was from hell and only the name of Jesus chased it away.

I do not know if you are of this Pentecostal/Charismatic mindset or not, but their error is believing they can receive the Holy Spirit again apart from salvation after signs, even the signs of tongues which comes with no interpretation and thus assumed for private use when it is not of Him at all, and they even continue to seek to receive Him again & again after other sensational signs in the flesh when in actuality, they are opening themselves up like mediums do in receiving spirits.

Go to the Lord Jesus Christ before that throne of grace and ask Him for help, rejecting that lie about being able to receive the Holy Spirit again, even for one more time by that sign of tongues and knowing the faith that Jesus Christ is in you per 2 Corinthians 13:5 for why greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world or lying next to you in that bed per 1 John 4:4.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.....
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.:

May you go to these words and ask Jesus for help to be reminded of them through the Holy Spirit in you so the next time should that ever happen again, the devil will know he has lost.

James 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

If you are not of the Pentecostal/Charismatic mindset, then it may very well be that you are undergoing a fiery trial for you to exercise your faith that Jesus Christ is in you and He is greater than that visitor that came to your bed that night.

1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

I have had experienced such an event, one hearing church bells playing the theme from M.A.S.H. at 3:15 A.M. and another time when I woke up and that evil spirit was in me as I was that evil spirit. That was scary, but I rayed to the Lord for help and soon deliverance came on both occasions. So you are not alone in your supernatural ordeal but the answer is the same; go to Jesus in prayer since He is in you & with you always. Believe that because He is true as He kicked out that evil that was in me when I had awakened that early morning and I do not recall even praying that time but I had thought of Him for help because of this promise below.

Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

I am afraid to sleep actually, being in no hurry to meet that apparition again!
By praying a great deal, I managed to sleep. There are many unseen forces all around us, the Bible confirms it.

It is good that the Lord is granting you your sleep. Ask Him to continually help you to trust Him for everything as I have found myself needing to do at certain times so I can go to sleep; which didn't involve any supernatural event although there has been several such events. Just saying that an unnerving events such as you have had can be traumatizing and plague you, but He is helping you to sleep.

Dogs are keen to the supernatural and will let you know if something is not right and so if this idea helps you to have more peace, have your dog sleep in your bedroom.

I remember when something happened one night about 3:15 a.m. way before that time when I was hearing church bells playing the theme form M.A.S.H. because my older brother was sleeping in that bed room next to the kitchen when our half German Shepherd; half Collie woke us all up that wee hour of the morning giving such a spooky howl that I have NEVER heard her give before. I didn't want to get up but Mom did and I did not want anything to happen to my Mom and so I got up to get ahead of her in the hallway to the kitchen where Mandy, the pet dog, was barricaded in by the fence to stay in whereas my brother's bedroom just had the door closed to the kitchen. Matt was in the kitchen before I was as I arrived at the small gate blocking Mandy in the kitchen as I noticed her cowering near the gate near the door to the garage and the door to the basement... in that corner near me of the kitchen. Her tail was between her legs and she was baring her fangs whimpering and whining.

I saw a film of dew covering the sliding glass doors to the outdoor wooden deck but the entry sliding door had an absence of dew in the shape of a human. Matt went up to the sliding door and looked out and saw nothing. I stepped over the gate and did the same after he had walked away back to his bedroom while my mother scolded Mandy for making the racket and to calm down. I saw nothing but the image of the absence of dew on that sliding door bothered me.

The next morning, we got the phone call that our cousin, Mark, had committed suicide by use of a gun. Time of death was around 3:15 A.M. Only thing is, there is an hour difference between that spooky moment and where Mark had committed suicide which was another earlier time zone away. Unless he had shot himself and it took him about an hour long to die, the time of the spooky event we had, it would be 2:15 A.M. where Mark was at.

I have heard of the banshee as a spirit that gives an early warning before someone dies in the family. Not saying that was it because it is still a mystery to me.

Anyway the point of sharing that was to testify how dogs are keen to the supernatural and can sense something is wrong and can let you know. I am not sure how feasible the idea is for having your dog sleep in your room, but it is a thought that the dog can awake you and you can start praying ahead of time should it ever happen again.

As it is, it has not happened again; not for that spooky moment with my dog, Mandy nor later on when I moved into that bedroom next to the kitchen when I heard church bells playing the theme from M.A.S.H.

So what had happened to you will probably not ever happened again because of this verse.

That spirit has fled when it bothered my dog, Mandy, and that other spirit fled when it bothered me with that church bells playing the theme from M.A.S.H. There has been other encounters but Jesus Christ is in me and with me always as He is with you so we just need His help to calm us down in the midst of our storms and help us keep our eyes on Him in spite of any past trauma or any thing that may happened again because He will overcome it in taking care of us.

That account of yours makes me shiver, I do think dogs and cats have far sharper senses than us. Your dog definitely sensed what happened.
After that apparition had gone, my dog who sleeps down in the kitchen came up as if to enquire if all was well. During the current hot nights here in UK, she normally stays downstairs where it is cooler. She was calm. I think the peace of the Lord Jesus was upon her! I too was relieved and knew the danger has gone. That's why I went back to sleep. I know Jesus's is the only name demons are frightened of. I felt this creature was from hell and it hated me and every human. It felt so threatening. If only atheists realised that it is appalling creatures like this one who will drag them into hell to torture and own them forever.

I tried to discern what could have made that happened and the only answer I got was I was binge watching TV shows and so like someone in a trance like state, with no commercial breaks, thus putting myself in a suggestive state of mind, thus mayhap I needed to take a break from that & I did. I figured that constant viewing was akin to emptying of oneself to allow spirits to come in as they seem to berate television for doing in making us sponges.

Anyway, I put my trust in the Lord to help me not do that again or whatever I did that may have caused such an event, but it could very well be something that could happen without any thing on my part; kind of like Satan daring God over the spiritual being of His servant Job that if certain things were taken away from him or that he experienced something, Job would lose faith, curse God or whatever. Fortunately, the Lord has worked in me to be His friend that I can count on Him being my Friend no matter what happens. And He did. I just pray and trust Him that I do not do anything foolish that He would permit strong delusions to occur like that or bring about spooky phenomenon ever again by anything I did.

You are speaking against the Holy Spirit. You are probably speaking out of ignorance, but you still need to repent! It is your "doctrine" that is in error.

A great point indeed, television is full of rubbish and misguided nonsense. We do get mesmerised by pure rubbish which must leave us vulnerable to suggestion. We should be careful what we allow into our heads.

Focussing back on prayer and the Bible, in Christian books and hymns has already made me feel better and back on the right path.

These encounters probably happened more often than not but people dismiss it for one reason or another. Good thing you knew better. Good thing the Lord made you to know better.

Theories abound, but only the Lord can make any correct guess to resonate with him.

Psalm 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Proverbs 4:17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

Thinking because the light was at the foot of the bed, but significantly, & Biblically, the paralysis is not of the Lord, but a work of darkness and so.. one has to discern the light.

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

So I definitely say that whatever happened in that room, his paralysis was not of the Lord and therefore whatever that was at the foot of the bed could very well be of the devil.

It was a demon.

Glad the Lord is in you and with you always for why that was all the demon could do to rattle you.

Indeed we must keep in mind that evil spirits cannot directly harm us. They are good at spreading fear and confusion.
Calling on Jesus's name and blood makes them flee.

I think the first thing you should do is go talk with your pastor. He would have good insight on those things.

Secondly , ask your Pastor to have a group pray over you to recieve God's Grace.
