Can anyone think of any Bible verses that deal with depression? So I can look them up whenever I feel depressed.

Using the bible verse as a pill to relieve a symptom is like taking aspirin for aches and pains without ever seeking an answer to the cure.

Davids answer to depression itself is found in the Psalms. He found his solution in understanding and acknowledging who God is and praising him for it. Depression is a lack of hope for a particular situation or a group of issues that surmount against an individual. The best remedy is to counsel one on one face to face with someone who understands who God is and what God is currently doing so that he can show you what you can do and what you can reasonably expect God to do to relieve your problems. I will pray that God will send unto you such a person who can help you if you are able to receive the help.

In Christ,

Thank you.

Yeah. I think I get it. I do have someone in mind that can counsel me. In fact my friends and I were talking about doing counseling for me we just never set up a time yet to do counseling.

You have asked for scriptures and I have found an article online which gives bible verses to meditate on. As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you (James 4:8) - so I encourage you to pray over them and to let God guide you by His Spirit to deeper study of His Word - as I understand what Gdemoss is saying, in that God desires relationship with us as He speaks to us through His word. Spend time listening and seeking God - I find writing down the scripture and then prayerfully writing down what I feel God is saying to me personally about it and how to apply to my life in a journal important. Then you will have a record of what God is saying to reflect on. It's good to look up the scriptures and read them in context (and if you have a bible with cross-referencing that can be helpful).

Having someone the Lord leads you to who you are able to pray with together and seek Godly counsel from is important as Gdemoss has spoken of - as we need each other in the body of Christ and relationships are important. I have prayed for you.

Here is an excerpt from the article I found:-

Bible Verses About Depression: 15 Helpful Scriptures

Depression is something that has been around for thousands of years. WebMD uses the following words in its definition of depression Major depression is an episode of sadness or apathy along with other symptoms that lasts at least two consecutive weeks and is severe enough to interrupt daily activities”. People who suffer from depression often are sad or uninterested in anything. Depressed people sleep a lot and enjoy spending time in darkness, rather than the light. God’s Word encourages us to come out of the darkness and concentrate on the things of others. This will take our focus off of ourselves and help us to find true peace and joy in serving others. I have found some things in the Bible that should help you to overcome depressing times. Take a look at these 15 helpful Scriptures.

Featured Memory Verse: Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

He puta new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

Your Trust and Hope is In Him; Call Upon Him

Romans 8:38-39 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

I am diagnosed with severe depression and PTSD, and I struggled for a very long time with it. I still have a little problem, but what helps me is a few things.

This is just "at home" things to do or try...if you feel you need to talk to a Dr. or counselor then I would do so!

Things that help me is just opening my Bible...no certain spot really..just open it and start reading...maybe flip thru some pages and read different verses. Sometimes by doing that, I find comfort and reminders of how much God really loves us.

You could also just pray. Close your eyes and talk to God, talk to Him about what is bringing you down. You could also write what is bothering you. Write it on paper and when you are done, pray over it and ask God to fill your heart with joy. When you are done, you can rip it up, and say something like "Thank You Lord for your love and for saving me God"

Also, what helped me is music. I love music. When I had hit a deep valley in my life..I listened to some great Christian music and it helped me a lot.
Some songs :note::singing: I listened to is:
"Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns
"Word of God Speak" by Mercy Me
"Everlasting God" by Lincoln Brewster

Those are just a few. I hope this helps you some.

God bless you with peace and joy in your heart.:teddybear2:

for me the below scripture helps. i know this scripture might not be talking about depression on a exact topic, but the last part about bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience. many times what troubles us isnt of God. by focusing on what you know, mater in factly, about scripture and about God maybe what he has done for you or how you know him it helps bring perspective. also i pray for a different perspective. how we see things can alter our mood/thoughts negitivly or positively. I dont think God wants us sad. however sometimes he will influince us to move by putting pressure on us. so when its bad think what it means. i do wanna say though, some people need medicine from a doctor. and i dont mean The Great Physisian, i mean making an appointment and talking and getting refered to another doc and then getting a prescription.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

ok.

Yeah I should've mentioned that I have been seeing a psychologist and psychiatrists for years. I just thought that should've been private though. Also I just wanted some verses that could help me in the mean time.

I think Halva Has pointed out some great verses.
Prayer is one of the major things that can give you peace of mind."The prayer of the righteous avails much".I used to feel very low at one point in my life sometimes for no apparent reason, but I find praying and meditating on God's word, the bible,helps...Getting into a habit of singing praises whenever possible,There is power in praise.Sometimes there's nothing man/doctors can do but God delivers us...Ask God to help you according to his divine perfect will and order...built a relationship with him he will lift you up in Jesus' name.

*Praying*
